Taking over the former Win Win Soya spot near Lebuh Cecil, Qi Li Xiang Dumpling Noodle House (七里香饺子面馆) is a modest eatery focusing on a small menu of China Chinese–inspired noodle dishes. Diners can expect options such as Scallion Oil Noodles and Chongqing Mala Noodles, alongside dumplings that are made to order, giving them a freshly prepared touch. Prices remain fairly reasonable, making it an accessible place for a casual meal in the area. That said, while the offerings are decent enough for a quick bite, the overall quality feels fairly ordinary and doesn’t quite leave a particularly strong impression.

Kim Shen Food Enterprise @ Taman Free School, Georgetown, Penang.
Hidden within Taman Free School’s residential blocks, Kim Shen Food Enterprise keeps things simple with a small local menu that rotates around familiar comfort picks like Lam Mee, Jawa Mee, Curry Mee and Nasi Lemak, with certain items such as Bubur Cha Cha reserved for weekends. Prices are refreshingly reasonable, making it an easy option when you just want an inexpensive local quick fix without venturing far. That said, nothing here feels particularly exciting or destination-worthy— it’s more the kind of humble neighbourhood spot that serves its purpose when convenience and affordability matter more than novelty.

GAIA Petit Terrace Cafe and Restaurant @ Lorong Carnavon, Georgetown, Penang.
Located along Lorong Carnarvon in George Town, GAIA Petit Terrace Cafe & Restaurant offers a modern take on French cuisine within a stylish and intimate setting. The menu features contemporary French-inspired dishes with elegant presentation, while prices are in line with restaurant expectations rather than typical café fare. Portions lean towards the smaller side, and although the food was decent overall, it did not leave a particularly lasting impression. Service was polite but could have been more attentive, while the ambience felt somewhat reserved and lacked the warmth that often enhances a dining experience. Nevertheless, it remains an option for those looking to explore modern French dining in the city centre.

Pandan House @ Beach Street, Georgetown, Penang.
Pandan House is one of the newer additions to the Beach Street stretch in George Town, offering a small, focused menu built around familiar Malaysian staples like Nasi Lemak, Char Bihun and simple toast sets, all within a fully air-conditioned space that makes for a more comfortable dine-in experience. The selection is fairly limited, and while the food quality is generally acceptable with nothing particularly off, the overall experience feels underwhelming—serving times can be quite long, and the pricing doesn’t quite translate into value. A decent spot for a casual stop, but one that leaves room for improvement.

Set against the understated backdrop of Mokozoyo Hotel Georgetown along Argyll Road, Beton Dining presents a modern French menu that draws from classic foundations while weaving in subtle contemporary touches. The cooking leans refined yet approachable, with flavours that are clean and composed rather than overly experimental. Seating is intentionally limited, giving the space a more intimate, almost private dining feel—though it does mean larger groups may find it less accommodating, so reservations are best made in advance. Prices trend slightly above the average, but remain aligned with the quality and overall experience. Open only in the evenings, it naturally suits a slower, more deliberate dinner setting rather than a quick, casual stop.

Kak Tao Lang 角头人 on Lebuh Victoria keeps things straightforward with a small, focused menu built around sour-spicy noodles and rice dishes paired with seafood or meat. The flavours lean bold and comforting rather than refined, and portions are generous enough to feel substantial without being excessive. It’s a casual, sit-down space where you come for a hearty meal instead of variety — expect to pay around RM20–40 per dish, which reflects restaurant pricing rather than hawker rates. The menu features quality ingredients and well-executed dishes with decent portion sizes, though prices are slightly above average compared to typical casual spots in town. The biggest downside was the service — it took more than an hour for our orders to arrive, which is difficult to justify at this price point.

Roti Lah! @ Cecil Street, Georgetown, Penang.
Roti Lah! on Cecil Street is a delightful new Japanese-inspired bakery in Georgetown that’s quickly won over fans with its focus on shio pan — a soft, lightly salty Japanese bread — alongside a good variety of other bakes like focaccia, soft buns and sweet treats that pair wonderfully with coffee or tea. The prices feel reasonable for the quality and craft, making it an easy stop for a mid-morning snack or casual treat. Just note that the seating is very limited (it’s more of a grab-and-go vibe), so it can be hard to accommodate larger groups unless you’re content to take your breads to enjoy elsewhere.
