Kak Tao Lang 角头人 on Lebuh Victoria keeps things straightforward with a small, focused menu built around sour-spicy noodles and rice dishes paired with seafood or meat. The flavours lean bold and comforting rather than refined, and portions are generous enough to feel substantial without being excessive. It’s a casual, sit-down space where you come for a hearty meal instead of variety — expect to pay around RM20–40 per dish, which reflects restaurant pricing rather than hawker rates. A practical choice when you’re craving something punchy and filling in the heart of George Town.

We tried both their noodle and rice offerings to get a better sense of the menu. For the noodles, we had the Sour Spicy Noodle Soup — one with milk and one without. The broth base was largely similar, carrying that signature tangy heat, but the version with milk felt rounder and slightly creamier, making it easier on the palate. The chilli wasn’t aggressively spicy, though you could feel a gentle heat building beneath the tongue after a few spoonfuls. Diners are free to add as much Chinese rice wine as they like, and we highly recommend doing so — the added aroma and subtle sweetness noticeably lifted the overall flavour profile. That said, we did feel slightly underwhelmed by the limited topping options; a more varied mix of seafood such as clams, fish slices, squid and prawns would have made the bowl more exciting.
On the rice side, the Sambal Sotong stood out. The sambal delivered a satisfying punch with a mild acidity at the finish that kept it from feeling too heavy, while the sotong itself was fresh and tender, pairing very well with plain rice. The Fried Chicken was decent too — served piping hot with a light hint of belacan that added savouriness without overpowering. Overall, the food shows promise, but personally, we would love to see a broader selection on the menu to make the experience feel more complete.
