Seed & Mi @ Sungai Petani, Kedah.

A short drive from Sungai Petani's industrial zone, Seed & Mi is especially suitable for diet-watchers. The cafe offers healthy food options like Poke Bowl (customization is available), All Day Breakfast, Japanese Onigiri and Smoothie Bowls. While there are other wallet-friendly options in Sungai Petani, Seed & Mi seems to be a popular spot with many returning regular patrons. The Poke Bowl is their signature dish, though they do not offer fresh Fish options, they do offer a good substitution for protein (like Chicken or Tofu for Vegan). Delicious healthy food in a comfortable setting, no wonder this place is gaining attention amongst the young cafe hoppers.

Mama Diet Premium @ Kimberley Street, Georgetown, Penang.

Weight watchers on KETO diet would be glad to know Mama Diet Premium, a healthy food provider offers a KETO-focused menu... featuring an array of KETO options. Diners can also choose to customize their own Poke Bowl should they prefer something else but generally, the toppings are of healthy and pack good amount of protein. Poke Bowl seems to be the only way out here but the combination varies depending on your choice. For those who enjoy a sweet treat after a meal, Mama Diet Premium offers KETO Low Carb Desserts as well.

Kohtenhep Cafe By Javu @ Macalister Road, Georgetown, Penang.

Fans of a popular restaurant- Javu can now enjoy their signature dishes right smack in town as the restaurant has just opened up a new branch at Macalister Road. Fans of Javu staying outside of the Tanjung Bungah area can finally have access to their signature dishes nearer to town. The new branch- Kohtenhep Cafe can be found at Macalister Road (previously occupied by Petit Cafe), a stone's throw distance away from YMCA on the same road. It is housed in a bungalow and should not be hard to spot thanks to its flashy orange exterior (in the form of container house).

Nomad Cafe @ Icon City, Bukit Mertajam, Penang.

The Poke Bowl fandom continues to explode... with a new Poke Bowl-focused cafe opening at Icon City. Nomad Cafe... the new kid on the block, has a menu suitable for the health-concerns. Not only Poke Bowls are on offer but an array of healthy brunch options as well. To place order for the Poke Bowls, simply take the leaflet from the ordering counter and tick your preferred ingredients. Notable highlights include Soba Noodles and Zucchini Noodles... for those who seek to reduce carbohydrates intake. Generally speaking, serving portion seems to be small at Nomad Cafe but if you are game for some healthy brunch options and a comfortable dining space, give this place a try.

Tummy Bowl @ Elit Avenue, Bayan Lepas, Penang.

It's hard to find good Poke Bowl in Penang as compared to Kuala Lumpur but the recent explosion of Poke Bowl's fandom has expanded to Penang... with more openings of Poke Bowl specialist. Hailed from Ipoh, Tummy Bowl has both counter-style or make-your-own Poke... it has an extensive list of toppings for you to choose. There's also vegetarian options for plant-based eaters. Like some of the big players in KL, it adopts self-ordering system.... diners are required to fill in the order form and hand it over to the counter, a number will be given to you while you wait for it to be called. Though my favorite is still The Fish Bowl but Tummy Bowl is nevertheless, the closest we can get here in Penang.

Javu @ Lembah Permai, Tanjung Bungah, Penang.

Javu, a quiet, unpretentious but relatively new cafe in the neighborhood of Lembah Permai has been receiving positive remarks from the nearby residents. It recently expanded its business from one shop lot to 2 shop lots... to accommodate more diners. They have been revising and improving on the menu; at present, it offers a variety of Western-influenced dishes with a local twist. Notable dishes include Hainanese Chicken Chop, Poke Bowl, Roti Babi etc. The price range can be big- with affordable choices and premium options but generally, the price points are on the higher side. On the dining atmosphere... one side is rather hipstery with a modern cafe setting while the other side offers an ordinary but comfortable dining space.

Pilipala by Woodmanz @ Udini Square, Gelugor, Penang.

The health food fad that originates from Hawaii, a Poke Bowl is a concoction of rice, fresh vegetables, fruits, seasoning and most importantly, marinated raw fish. The Hawaiian delicacy is said to be nutritiously healthy yet delicious and has since received positive responses from many Asian countries. There are plenty of Poke-joints in central Malaysia but not the case for Penang. Though there are a couple of cafes serving Poke bowls already, none are as specialized as compared to the newly opened Pilipala by Woodmanz. Apart from serving the Hawaiian classic, the cafe serves good sweet treats too; outside the place is an area with inflated-balloon igloo... where diners can opt to dine-in the private space (if you don't mind the heat). Interesting menu and still pretty new, the place is worth checking out if you are a fan of Poke-bowls and desserts. Find Pilipala at the lower ground floor of Udini Square, below Goku-Sen Japanese Restaurant.
