Fisherman's Wharf (槟城渔人码头)- Great Cheap Eats @ Karpal Singh Drive, Georgetown, Penang.

Penang is a State blessed with myriad of street and hawker food; hawker centers are part of our lives and we are never bored of getting excited to visit all these hawker centers! If you are one of us or intend to indulge in a great variety of local food (this is the best way to savor authentic and yummy local delights), make your way to Fisherman's Wharf.... one of the largest food courts in town. The place is not new but was recently taken over by a new management (since last quarter of 2017) and therefore, given a new face to the place. It is now more organized, cleaner with more food choices  available (Fisherman's Wharf houses more than 40 food stalls). The locals' favorites- Curry Mee, Hokkien Mee, Char Koay Kak, Koay Teow Th'ng, Lam Mee, Lor Bak, Bak Kut Teh etc are all there but if you or your guests prefer a little international variety, there are Pizza, Shawerma, Burgers, Japanese and Korean dishes as well. Rest-assured, all items are reasonably priced to the "hawker" standard and will not put a dent on your wallet. It's also worth mentioning that at certain hours, there will be live band performances.... imagine spending your weekend evenings on great food, chilled Beers and live performances at the beach front. Ample Free Parking space too if that's your concern.

Mystery Village Cafe & Pub (神秘村庄) @ Chulia Street, Georgetown, Penang.

Tucked away in a hidden corner of the bustling Chulia Street, Mystery Village Cafe & Pub is accessible from a hidden, curious passageway opposite to the junction of Cintra Street and Chulia Street. Push the door open and you will find yourself in a mysterious but lovely garden filled with an array of local delights. Traipse up the stairs and you will plenty of seats under the marquee... with live song performance on weekends. On the food offering, the place runs like an upscale food court... where visitors may order the food from specific vendor and they will then send the food to your table. Not much of choices for now (only Pi Pa Duck, Grilled Seafood, Western Food, Satay and of course alcohols) but more variety will soon be added. Prices are higher than usual but you pay for the chic al-fresco atmosphere. 

Water Front Food Court @ Karpal Singh Drive, Georgetown, Penang.

There's an unexplained relationship of food courts and Penangites; it excites us like a child when we get to know there is a new food court opening (especially a big one!). At the new township of Karpal Singh Drive, there is a new food court that has opened its doors to the public recently. There are ample parking lots available with myriad of hawker stalls housed within the food court. Expect to see a wide range of not only local must-eats like Hokkien Prawn Mee, Char Koay Teow, Curry Mee but international cuisine like Japanese, Thai, Vietnamese food either. Prices are standard-average but what the place really offers is the vast selection of street food, everyone of different age group will eventually find something that suits his/her palate. To find this new food court, drive from Automall towards McDonald's at Karpal Singh Drive, keep driving (after McDonald's) and you will find it on your left within a few seconds. 

Urban Food Hall @ Gurney Paragon Mall, Penang.

Urban Food Hall, a swanky-upmarket place with a collaborative effort between 5 businesses- Quiznos Sub, The Library Coffee Bar, Ichiban, Johnny Rockets and The South East on Ground Floor of Gurney Paragon Mall has recently opened its doors to the public. The space hosts 5 different food brands, which offers a mix of food from all over the world; from Western to Japanese to Oriental, one can even get the usual Cafe fare, a light Sandwich meal or even a boozy treat. One unique feature is that there will be a dancing performance every hour to entertain the diners (performed by servers in Johnny Rockets' uniform). Urban Food Hall has a huge menu at considerably high prices but there are certain areas that they could perform better and could pay more attention to- service was not attentive (extremely slow in fact), cutlery was not well-washed (greasy), tables were not cleanly-wiped, food quality not up to par etc. Urban Food Hall is located on the Ground Floor of Gurney Paragon Mall, next to Sephora and facing Kelawai Road.

Thai Food @ Old City Food Court, Prima Tanjung, Penang.

I'm sure most people will not realize that there's a food court hidden in Prima Tanjung (well, unless you are staying nearby) and to my surprise, one can actually find some real authentic Thai food at the food court. There are quite a lot of choices in the food court but the two Thai Food stalls stood out to me for receiving the most orders and long queues can be spotted outside the stall. Prices are quite cheap and economical. Helmed by some Thais, most of our orders were just averagely okay but every single dish that we had tasted very authentic. Do try the Lam Mee and Thai Koay Chiap which can be found in the food court too!

Food Gallery @ Penang Times Square

Had the chance to visit this newly opened food court in penang times square today, i think the management did a great job in advertising and making noises in this grand opening, i get to know this food court via my fren and newspapers. Anyway, this food court has alot of stalls, food from all over the world and has more than 200 types of food available, however, i was told that the food was a bit over priced. I'll introduce the food i've tried today.

Spaghetti marinara (rm15), the spaghetti comes in a pathetically small portion, with 2 crab sticks, 2 prawns, and 2 mussels. The mussels and crab sticks were okay, however, the prawns were disappointing. They were still raw, they were not cooked thoroughly, it stinks somehow. I cant even swallow them, i think probably they just took them out from the fridge and the cooking time wasnt sufficient to cook them. Although the taste was okay, but with such portion and the disappointing prawns, this spaghetti is definitely over-priced.

Salmon sushi (rm4) and Ebiko sushi (rm4), yet, another disappointing dish. When i received the food, i took a look at the salmon sushi, the colour was pale and unappealing, the salmon was thinly sliced as well until it affects the overall texture of the sushi. The ebiko sushi was okay, since they just bought the ebiko and topped them onto the sushi rice roll, The ingredients were fresh, no doubt, but the skills in handling them are definitely needed to be improved; not to mention the portion is relatively smaller compared to those out  there such as sushi king and any jap food outlets. Another over-priced dish and the long queue attracted me at the beginning, i think its over-rated again; definitely nt coming back for the sushi again.

Taiwanese chicken chop rice set(rm7.50), this set comes with a rice, at first i tot it was okay, but i was later told by my fren that it was rather dry coz there wasnt any sauce given to go with the meat, the taste was okay, abit salty for the soup tho. I think with the price, the portion was okay, at least it wasnt as expensive as the spaghetti i ordered.

Claypot chicken rice (rm4.50), the portion was small too, bt the price was very affordable and its understandable since the rental is higher over here, the taste was okay, mainly due to the using of glutinous rice to increase the texture of the rice and it was served hot. With the look of it, i think its quite worth of trying.

There was this mahkota padang stall at the end of the food court too, i was told that its very famous in serving Indonesian cuisine, i would love to try this out next time since we rarely find and see indonesian cuisine here.

I must say that the management really took the effort in renovating the food court, i like their concept of having this outdoor session as smoking area, bt its quite cosy for chatting and chill outs. They are actually setting up an elevator that allows customers to gain access directly from ground floor to 1st floor, the food court. I would definitely choose to sit here if i were to have a chatting session with my frens, provided that the weather is not too hot.

The food court is rather big and it needs some time for u to explore, so far the food i've tried were rather disappointing and over-priced, i hope the food wont be disappointing me again with my next visit and i think i should give other stalls a chance.

Xin Lai Lai" Food Court

Went supper with S last night......after like 40 mins of driving , we couldnt find a place to coz its ad near to 10.30pm......passed by this food court coincidentally....so went in and tried some of the food , this food court is located near jalan P.Ramlee and jalan Perak and its just 10mins walking distance from heng ee high school.....anyway , here are our orders :

Mee Udang (rm3.50).....this is 1 of the best mee udang i'd ever tried in town.....i don feel like posting up this post in the beginning but S feels this mee udang is superb so she suggested i post this....well ....its super duper hot and spicy....but the sauce is simply amazing ,comes with 3 big prawns as well =)

Belacan Fried Rice (rm4.00).....very fragrant and the rice is chewy , but wat i dislike is they put in a lot of vege which is very annoying......seems like fried rice with tons of vege isnt a good idea afterall @.@

Satay(rm5.00)......pretty decent....nothing special worth for me to mention.....sauce is terribly few =(

They got quite a wide variety of food here.......but from wat i tried b4 , their wanton mee , curry mee and western food is quite nice and price is reasonable too =).....well , its just a short post since its just supper , don expect me to eat a lot right XD
