Onya Modern Asian Restaurant @ The Promenade, Bayan Baru, Penang.

Previously known as Golden Bowl (associated with milky Cheese noodles if you still remember), the same group of people is now managing a new brand- Onya Modern Asian Restaurant at The Promenade, Bayan Baru. Unlike the previous menu, Onya rolls out a modern Malaysian menu... featuring many familiar Malaysian delights with a twist. The restaurant at The Promenade is spacious, comfortable and air-conditioned; making it very accommodating for large groups as well as diners of all age range. Dishes are reasonably priced and with a diverse menu, this place could be a popular lunch spot for those working in the vicinity.

OoriDoori Korean Restaurant @ The Promenade, Bayan Baru, Penang.

Craving for some authentic Korean food ever since the lockdown in May 2021 (after math for watching too many Korean dramas)? You would be delighted to learn that there is a newly established Korean joint at The Promenade (Bayan Baru). Manned by Koreans, OoriDoori is definitely worth a place in your food radar. Unlike most Korean restaurants, the menu at OoriDoori is slightly unusual. You can't find the usual Korean Hot Pots here or the classic barbecue meat over the stove... not even Dakgalbi but more like home-cooked Korean dishes with a few additions of Korean-Chinese dishes (like Jajangmyeon, Jampong or Tangsuyuk etc). The classics like Tteokbokki, Gimbap however, are still available. Reasonable price points, comfortable dining atmosphere... would be even better if they can improve on the serving speed.

Farmer's Market @ The Promenade, Bayan Baru, Penang.

Another new option for the folks at Bayan Baru- Farmer's Market is a new restaurant that offers an affordable Western menu; accordingly, the restaurant would source fresh ingredients directly from the farm to serve. Healthy options are some of their highlights as well- most items are quite familiar here and each main (consists of protein) shall come with 2 different side dishes with no extra charges. Cozy dining atmosphere, affordable price points and no-frills menu are some of the reasons why you should put this place on your radar. Farmer's Market can be found at The Promenade, below Mesiniaga office and next to Mr. DIY.

Bene Seafood Restaurant 龙蒸虎焖 @ The Promenade, Bayan Baru, Penang.

Probably the only restaurant specializing in offering Dragon Tiger Grouper 龙虎斑, Bene Seafood Restaurant 龙蒸虎焖 at The Promenade (Bayan Baru) has a menu dedicated entirely to this grouper fish. The Chinese restaurant does not have any impressive setting but just a down-to-earth restaurant setting with basic tables and chairs... just like any Chinese restaurants in the neighborhood. On the menu- it apart from the Chinese stir fry dishes (expect to find the usual Zhu Char fare here), it offers an array of Noodle dishes as well. The prices are however, unexpectedly affordable but don't expect the serving portion to be very big. Definitely a worth-checking out restaurant, especially for family gatherings over a meal.

Inderawasih Koay Teow Soup 凤凰现煮粿条汤 @ The Promenade, Bayan Lepas, Penang.

Taking over the lot previously owned by Din Ding Tea is Inderawasih Koay Teow Soup 凤凰现煮粿条汤, a popular brand from Taman Inderawasih, Prai. As the name suggests, the place specializes in offering "cook on the spot" or commonly known as 现煮粿条汤. For the uninitiated, such term refers to the way of cooking and serving. The usual type of Koay Teow Soup would be to blanch the noodles and serve the pre-cooked soup as it is but the "cook on the spot" version would be to cook every single serving individually... typically with fresh, minced Pork and innards (popular options also include Fish Balls, Egg etc). Inderawasih's rendition seems to be murkier, with heavy pork notes.

Din Ding Tea 津鼎茶 @ The Promenade, Bayan Lepas, Penang.

Just as we thought another Bubble Milk Tea is opening up at The Promenade, we were surprised to find out that Din Ding Tea 津鼎茶 is actually a restaurant offering a Chinese menu. The new kid on the block has a cozy, tranquil setting... with Chinese Tea Pots and knick-knacks adorning the walls while the tables and chairs are all Chinese-themed, pretty much suited to the theme. While the place has a very Chinese decor, the menu is a blend of local and Chinese dishes... featuring South East Asian delights like Nasi Lemak, Thai styled Chicken, Fish and curry dishes. Prices are on the steeper side though the serving portions are fairly large....

Manzoku @ The Promenade, Bayan Baru, Penang.

A new addition to The Promenade at Bayan Baru, Manzoku is a casual dining spot that offers quick and simple meal. It gives us the impression that the place runs as a take-away kiosk... mainly due to its serving method- all foods are served using plastic take-away containers; good for those in rush of time or the office workers nearby but otherwise if dining in. It lacks the 'x-factor', as though we were having some take-away food in the restaurant. On the menu, it offers Burgers, Pasta and Donburi (Japanese Rice Bowl dish) in some classic choices but there are a few quirky ones as well. Prices are rather budget-friendly though...

Hive by Love A Loaf @ The Promenade, Bayan Baru, Penang.

An extended branch of Love A Loaf, Hive seeks to be a casual eatery that offers simple dishes on top of what being offered by Love A Loaf. The cafe carries Love A Loaf's signature Pastries and Bread but also rolls out its own signature dishes... particularly the Special Pot series. The current soft-launch menu is a little weak... featuring a series of the Pasta dishes and Special Pots... with some choices of desserts. Mid-range price points but we thought the service could be better improved; unlikely a place for absolute taste, probably more for the sake of novelty. Hive can be found at Promenade, behind Yin's Wholefood Manufactory.
