Lim Kee Yong Tau Foo at Jalan Raja Uda is a go-to spot for fans of homemade Yong Tau Foo. Specializing in Mackerel-based fillings, the eatery offers an impressive variety — from classic soup versions to freshly deep-fried ones made upon order. Diners can pair their selection with noodles (dry or soup) or opt for Chee Cheong Fun, available in sauces like Curry. With air-conditioned seating and wallet-friendly prices, it’s a comfortable and satisfying stop for a casual meal.

Ho Kee Pau and Noodle House 禾记手工面点餐厅 @ Raja Uda, Butterworth, Penang.

A new addition to the Raja Uda food scene is Ho Kee Pau and Noodle House 禾记手工面点餐厅, a Chinese restaurant offering China-Chinese menu. Expect to find familiar dishes like Shanghainese Xiao Long Bao, Dumplings, Scallion Oil Noodles etc. Items are reasonably priced with plenty of options available, the place is also comfortably equipped with air-conditioners... but there are plenty of rooms for improvements as far as food quality is concerned...

Dainty Kitchen 老厨房 @ Raja Uda, Butterworth, Penang.

Available in both Raja Uda and Bukit Mertajam (near AEON), Dainty Kitchen 老厨房 is a popular Cantonese restaurant in mainland. It started off in Bukit Mertajam a couple years ago and expanded to Raja Uda recently; both restaurants offering the same menu. The one in Raja Uda is fairly small and only able to accommodate less than 10 tables so reservations are recommended if you plan to visit this restaurant. Dainty Kitchen's menu is not very big, offering Cantonese dishes with a modern twist. Prices are high considering the portion but the quality is there. Dainty Kitchen Raja Uda can be found right behind AEON Credit and next to Khing Cafe.

Khāo Thai Restaurant @Raja Uda, Butterworth, Penang.

A fairly new Thai restaurant at Raja Uda, Butterworth- Khāo; both the interior and exterior decor barely suggests any Thai elements. The interior decor is modern with a wood-tone, but the seats are less comfortable (fine for a quick fix but not practical for gatherings over chit-chat). The word Khāo refers to Rice in Thai; with a name like Khāo, one can expect the Thai restaurant to carry a Rice-focused Thai menu. The restaurant serves good food- at least we were happy with the quality of our orders, reasonable prices too. Worth checking out if you happen to be in the neighborhood.

Five Grain Bee Hoon 五谷鱼粉 @ Raja Uda, Butterworth, Penang.

For those who enjoy a slurplicious, heart-warming bowl of Fish Noodles, make your way to Five Grain Bee Hoon 五谷鱼粉 at Jalan Raja Uda, Butterworth. Unlike local Fish Noodles, Five Grain is a China Chinese-influenced brand. The menu is straight-forward and limited, only offering Fish Noodles... but in various broth. Diners get to choose between the classic flavors or with China pickled Mustard or Ma-La broth. The place is air-conditioned and offers a comfortable space for a quick fix. Not shabby if you are looking for a casual place for a simple, hearty meal.

Longrain @ Raja Uda, Butterworth, Penang.

A curious restaurant at Raja Uda, Butterworth- Longrain has little or no relationship with its food offering; the restaurant's location on an upper floor unit making it more mysterious and hidden. But words of mouth spread out as well as positive reviews on social media, Longrain has since received quite a fair bit of attention. Longrain specializes in home-made Pasta, along with some Western-Fusion dishes, the menu is not too big but good enough to suit diners of all age-range. Reasonable prices, good food quality and comfortable air-conditioned space are some of the few good reasons why you should check out this place.

Meng Thai Village Restaurant @ Raja Uda, Butterworth, Penang.

Those hankering for a taste of Thai can satiate their cravings at Meng Thai Village Restaurant, a Thai restaurant located off the bustling Jalan Raja Uda. The Thai restaurant has just started its business operations end of last year and has been the go-to Thai restaurant for those living in the neighborhood. The place gets busy even in the afternoons; but for the heat intolerant, be warned- as the place is not air-conditioned. So be prepared for a sweat-inducing meal. The Pork-Free menu is fairly big, with most signature Thai delights included. The price points are of middle-range. Despite the good reviews given by some online reviewers, we found there were some hits and misses for our orders. Probably we did not order the right dishes...

Level 2 Coffee & Food @ Raja Uda, Butterworth, Penang.

Level 2 Coffee & Food is not exactly very new, the place has been around for a few months and has made appearances on social media channels. The cafe charms visitors with their aesthetically pleasing minimalist interior decor- a perfect element for good Instagram feed. The place was thronged with cafe hoppers during their first few opening weeks. We did not get to visit until lately. Apart from the laid-back vibe, the cafe also pleases diners with its big Western menu. Visit the place before noon and you will get to try their Breakfast menu, featuring a variety of Toasts and Croissants; the usual menu carries familiar items like Pasta or grills.

Little June 小六月 @ Raja Uda, Butterworth, Penang.

Little June 小六月 has been around for quite some time and the location is pretty hidden. For those who are not so familiar with Raja Uda area, this Japanese restaurant can be found on the upper floor of one of the retail commercial outlets near to the junction of Permatang Pauh and Raja Uda. It's easy to miss this place due to the plain-looking signage. The restaurant serves a Japanese menu, featuring many Japanese delights. Once you stepped in the place, you will be welcomed by an array of Sushi on display but of course, the menu has more than just Sushi to offer.

How R You Dessert Cafe @ Raja Uda, Butterworth, Penang.

A sweet addition to Raja Uda is How R You Dessert Cafe- a homey, humble cafe that offers home-cooked desserts. Opened in late July 2019, the cafe has fast-become one of the busiest cafes in the neighborhood; not only that it offers rather unique sweet treats but healthy-options are also one of their selling points. All items are home-made and affordably priced... with seasonal items being rolled out from time to time. Definitely worth-checking out if you happen to be in the neighborhood.

Thong Sum Dim Sum 同心茶楼 @ Raja Uda, Butterworth, Penang.

A new Dim Sum joint found at the busiest street of Butterworth, Thong Sum Dim Sum 同心茶楼 started its business operations in mid April 2019 but has since gathered an appreciate following. The place is most crowded on weekends, expect to queue for tables during its peak hours (partly due to the limited tables). The Dim Sum restaurant is fairly modern with new tables and chairs; items are properly organized and arranged on the carts as well as display counter near the entrance. While we were happy to find out the wallet-friendly prices, we thought the choices were a little limited. Not a bad choice if you happen to be in the neighborhood.

Me Melon Dessert House @ Raja Uda, Butterworth, Penang.

Specializing in making Kakigori (Japanese Shaved Ice), Me Melon Dessert House earned its fame through the perfect play of dairy and fresh fruits; the brand started in Hatyai (Thailand) and has since garnered an appreciate following... be it local Thai or Malaysian. The widespread of Japanese and Korean desserts in Thailand resulting in many cafes/ restaurants in the country churning out good Kakigori/Bingsu and Me Melon is one of them in Southern Thailand. News about Me Melon opening a branch in Penang has excited many dessert lovers. But Kakigori is not the only sweet treat here, Shibuya Toasts, Waffles and Brownies are also on offer.

Raku Ichi Sushi @ Raja Uda, Butterworth, Penang.

A completely unexpected encounter at this friendly neighborhood of Raja Uda... it's the type of place where you would not even notice its existence despite passing by for many times. But Raku Ichi is known to the nearby folks as one of the decent Japanese restaurants in the vicinity. The brand is popular for its fresh and inexpensive Sushi on the kaiser belt as well as... Japanese Ramen. The Ramen menu is legit... with choices of different Ramen broth; though the prices are on the higher side but they commensurate with good quality. One of the few places in Penang that serves decent Ramen.

Penne & Spaghetti @ Raja Uda, Butterworth, Penang.

The name- Penne & Spaghetti speaks it all, it's a place that would excite all Pasta lovers but what amazing is not the menu but the flexibility of the pasta combination as well as its shockingly wallet-friendly price tags. Apart from the standard pasta dishes, the restaurant allows diners to customize their own combination of Pasta, sauce and toppings. Given the fact that the restaurant is fully air-conditioned and the unbeatable prices, the place fits for a casual meal if you are in the neighborhood.

Chloe Cafe (茶约) @ Raja Uda, Butterworth, Penang.

Talk about expensive Milk Tea or Taiwanese beverages, the newly opened Chloe Cafe has got to be one of the most expensive cafes in Penang to offer these beverages. It's customary to have a serving of Taiwanese Milk at slightly over Rm 10 but it's definitely uncommon to pay slightly more than double for that but cafe hoppers do pay the price for curiosity at Chloe Cafe. Apart from the quality, they pay for its comfortable, chic atmosphere. It has the modern, minimalist touch to it and it does not only offer beverages... the food menu has an interesting blend of Western-Asian delights... with some of their own twists. Prices are generally higher here, especially in the Butterworth neighborhood but given the food quality and exceptional dining atmosphere (comparing those in the same area), the place is worth a look.

Tang Ren Guan (唐人馆) @ Raja Uda, Butterworth, Penang.

One of the latest dining spots at Raja Uda is Tang Ren Guan (唐人馆), a place with heavy, bold Chinese elements. Enter the place and you will spot plenty of Chinese Tanglungs and Umbrellas... turning the place in a red hue. It's not a standalone restaurant/ cafe, in fact, it's a space gathering few eateries... forming some sort of upscale food court. Save for the beverage stall, there are 3 food stalls in operation right now- Tong Gei Siu Lap (唐记烧腊), Hakka Canteen (客家食堂) and Mr. Q Taiwanese Minced Pork Rice (Mr. Q 台湾卤肉饭). It adopts self-service... place your order with the respective stall and collect your order on the spot. Though the place is air-conditioned, it gets pretty warm in sultry hot afternoons. Playful setting but the lack of variety dissuades us from revisiting.

Lee Roast House (李记烧腊馆) @ Raja Uda, Butterworth, Penang.

Opened in March 2018, Lee Roast House is one of the few standalone roast meat specialists in the neighborhood (most can be found housed in coffee shops) of Raja Uda. It has the standard range of meat on offer- Char Siew, Sio Bak, Roasted Chicken and Duck... with some sides and vegetable dishes. Diners have the options to choose between Noodles or Rice to go with the meat. Nothing's new but classic offering that can be accepted by all age groups. Wallet-friendly prices with quality food and comfortable dining space, worth-checking out if you are in the vicinity.

Ko Cha Mee (古早面) @ Raja Uda, Butterworth, Penang.

The name "Ko Cha Mee" brings evocative images as one would be able to link that to the delicacies we used to enjoy during earlier days. Housed in one of the corner business lots at Raja Uda, Ko Cha Mee is a noodle specialist that offers something similar to "Lam-Mee". For the uninitiated, Lam Mee is closely linked to Nyonya families and often served during birthday celebrations as the dish signifies  longevity; the flavorful broth is usually cooked with Prawns and Pork Ribs/ Chicken, complemented by a dash of home-made Sambal Belacan. Ko Cha Mee offers such a platform to savor the flavors of the past, but if you are looking for a variety, this is not a place for you as the small menu only specializes in noodles (with optional add-ons). Albeit the catchy name, we did not find the food outstanding nor worth the distance to travel all the way to Raja Uda; probably a regular Lam Mee in the neighborhood is on par with theirs.

Crab B Restaurant (螃蟹哥哥) @ Butterworth, Penang.

There are a lot of crabby spots in Penang but not many are as playful as Crab B (螃蟹哥哥), a brand that has been anchored in concrete at Petaling Jaya, Selangor. This new spot at Butterworth (adjacent to Chung Ling Butterworth) is an extended branch in northern Malaysia. It's the perfect spot for adventurous foodies to ditch the conventional ways of eating crabs, instead of the usual baked Crabs or Malaysians' favorite Sweet and Sour Crabs, Crab B churns out funky flavors like Oreo Cheese, Musang King Durian Cheese, Milo Butter, Honeydew Sago or Honey Lemon Crab. But apart from these imaginative-playful flavors, the Chinese stir-fry dishes are promising and safe. Price points are middle-high but they provide good quality in return, the Crabs are selling at Rm 158 per kg but only XL sized Crabs are available (they do not serve small Crabs).
