Lim Kee Yong Tau Foo 林记马鲛鱼酿豆腐 @ Raja Uda, Butterworth, Penang.

Lim Kee Yong Tau Foo at Jalan Raja Uda is a go-to spot for fans of homemade Yong Tau Foo. Specializing in Mackerel-based fillings, the eatery offers an impressive variety — from classic soup versions to freshly deep-fried ones made upon order. Diners can pair their selection with noodles (dry or soup) or opt for Chee Cheong Fun, available in sauces like Curry. With air-conditioned seating and wallet-friendly prices, it’s a comfortable and satisfying stop for a casual meal.

Yong Tau Foo (Rm 2 per piece)

Deep Fried Prawn Roll (Rm 3 per piece) and Fish Ball (Rm 1.50 per piece)

Noodles with Soy Sauce (Rm 4)

Curry Chee Cheong Fun (Rm 3 for 2 rolls)

While there are packaged sets available, most would prefer the "Pick it yourself" style to choose the preferred Yong Tau Foo pieces. The fresh vegetable Yong Tau Foo is made upon order and do let them know if you would prefer Soup or Deep Fried. We were slightly underwhelmed when we found out that they deep fried most of our Yong Tau Foo, including Long Beans and Okra. The end results were overly dried and greasy. On the Fish Balls or Fish Paste, we were told that they use fresh Mackerel. True enough, the quality was superior, even better if they can be more generous with the spread of Fish paste. On the carbs- we had dry Noodles with Soy Sauce and Curry Chee Cheong Fun; both were decent.
