Kim Seng Koay Teow Th'ng (金星茶餐室) @ Kampung Benggali, Butterworth, Penang.

Koay Teow Th'ng has always been Penangites' favorite local food- it can be enjoyed for breakfast, lunch or dinner. The folks at Kampung Benggali love their Koay Teow Th'ng... and it started from Kim Seng (金星) before the rival appeared. Nevertheless, patrons still flock to Kim Seng... making it one of the busiest breakfast places around. The place is known to pair Koay Teow Th'ng with Roasted Pork (Sio Bak)... the locals like to slather their rice noodles with plenty of home-made Chili paste. Not exactly the best one around though.

London Duck (伦敦烤鸭) @ Gurney Plaza, Penang.

Gurney Plaza gets "quackier" with the opening of London Duck... a Duck specialist that offers a great variety of Chinese delights. The newly opened restaurant on third floor draws great crowd on the first opening week... partly due to its attractive opening promotion followed by its family-friendly Chinese menu. While the name might hint on its specialty, the menu is not quite Duck-focused. London Duck makes a fine family restaurant... regardless of your age group, there will be something suitable for you. Not exactly the best food around but given the comfortable dining space and family-friendly menu, the place is worth a look.

Lee Roast House (李记烧腊馆) @ Raja Uda, Butterworth, Penang.

Opened in March 2018, Lee Roast House is one of the few standalone roast meat specialists in the neighborhood (most can be found housed in coffee shops) of Raja Uda. It has the standard range of meat on offer- Char Siew, Sio Bak, Roasted Chicken and Duck... with some sides and vegetable dishes. Diners have the options to choose between Noodles or Rice to go with the meat. Nothing's new but classic offering that can be accepted by all age groups. Wallet-friendly prices with quality food and comfortable dining space, worth-checking out if you are in the vicinity.

Weng Kei (荣记烧腊) @ Carnavon Street, Georgetown, Penang.

Though the business has been running for a while, Weng Kei (荣记烧腊) does not seem to manage to steal the limelight, the place is overshadowed by its neighbor- Gou Lou Wan Ton Mee (高佬云吞面). Offering almost the same type of food (ie: Wan Ton Mee), it makes it tougher for Weng Kei to contend with the long-established brand. But the fact that it is still standing strong today proves one thing- they have garnered an appreciate following with superior food quality. It has a restricted menu.... it only offers an array of Roast meat... served with springy Wan Ton Mee (no Rice is served if you must know) as well as Porridge. One of the places that I would like to go for a casual, meat-licious meal.

Ah Ma Pan Mee (阿嫲刀麻切) @ 4th Street Club, Tye Sin Street, Georgetown, Penang.

Noodles are deeply rooted in our culinary consciousness, there is no one size fits all. There are a lot of varieties on offer and they can come in different size, color, shape, texture as well as flavor. Typically, Pan Mee (a type of Hakka Noodles) is served in the shape of thin, round and smooth texture but Ah Ma Pan Mee, a newly opened Pan Mee specialist at 4th Street Club (Tye Sin Street) decides to do things differently. Using traditional recipe from Pahang, the noodle joint offers Pan Mee in its own style. While the soup bases and condiments are similar, the noodles stand out. They come in irregularly fat-round shape with al-dente (slightly chewy and bouncy) texture. The menu is not big but the air-conditioned restaurant offers a comfortable dining space for hungry diners to have a quick fix; definitely a place where fans of Pan Mee should check out.

Ah Zhong Chicken Rice (Hainan F&B/ 亚忠海南鸡饭) @ Kampung Malabar, Georgetown, Penang.

Chicken Rice is one of the staples for Penangites and it can be found anywhere in the State but it is not easy to find one that offers variety- dishes that work alongside with roasted Chicken. Ah Zhong Chicken Rice at Kampung Malabar is one of the latest Chicken Rice specialists that offers these delicacies. Apart from the usual Chicken Rice, it offers Bean Sprouts Koay Teow, Porridge, Tom Yum and Cantonese stir-fry Noodles etc. We thought the place was decent and would be suitable if someone would like something else (then the ordinary Chicken Rice) for a change. Ah Zhong is good for the variety.

Euro Deli Delicatessen @ Gurney Plaza, Penang.

Euro Deli Delicatessen is a charming European restaurant long-operating at Gurney Plaza; it has constantly luring shoppers with its European-focused menu offering a vast enticing delights like German Pork Knuckle, Bratwurst, Hungarian Goulash, English Meat Plate etc. Despite showcasing a bar-like decor, the restaurant is in fact has a family-friendly atmosphere that presets diners with a relaxed, inviting interior, complete with warm wooden accents. In the evenings, the place is well-received amongst social drinkers or those who fancy imported European Beers. Euro Deli gives an impression as a drinking place but the menu should not be forsaken as well, particularly for meat lovers. Popular choices are the meaty, well-spiced Bratwurst and crackling Pork Knuckle.

Kampung Benggali Xio Bak Koay Teow Th'ng @ Butterworth, Penang.

Right next to the bustling Butterworth outer ring road, Kampung Benggali is home to many local SMEs as well as private residential. Needless to say, the neighborhood does have something to offer (in terms of food). Koay Teow Th'ng with Roasted Pork seems to be the favorite food in the neighborhood but there are a few notable ones, with the most famous one being 'Kim Seng' but for this trip, we had 'Kampung Benggali Xio Bak Koay Teow Th'ng'... just a few shops away from 'Kim Seng'. Though less-crowded, the food quality was rather disappointing...
