A new addition to Jelutong’s dining scene—Bai Wei Xian 百味鲜沙县小吃 is a humble Chinese eatery that specializes in Shaxian county’s delicacies, with a focus on dumplings and noodles. While the menu may not be the most extensive, it offers just enough variety for a satisfying, casual meal. The real charm lies in its unbeatable prices, with a plate of noodles starting from as low as RM5. The restaurant is clean, brightly lit, and comfortably spaced, though parking around the area can be a bit tricky.

Zai Seng Dim Sum 再生点心 @ Bagan Ajam, Butterworth, Penang.
Looking to enjoy your morning Dim Sum with a sea view? Zai Seng Dim Sum 再生点心 at Pantai Bersih is probably an option that you would like to explore. Opened in mid 2024, the place is within a short drive from Raja Uda, Butterworth. The Dim Sum restaurant is spacious with plenty of tables and seats. The best time to visit is early in the morning for the cool sea breeze, it gets warmer in the day. In terms of food offerings- the variety is not as extensive as that of some established Dim Sum restaurants in town... though they do serve a few stir fried noodle options. This is a place more for its ambiance than for an outstanding culinary experience- but if you’re planning to visit, their stir-fried noodles are worth a try.

Tai Yi Taiwanese Restaurant 台壹腿库饭 @ Bukit Mertajam, Penang.
Tai Yi Taiwanese Restaurant 台壹腿库饭 has proven to be one of the popular dining spots in the neighborhood since its opening late last year. We are not surprised- affordably priced food items, delicious food and great services. The fully air-conditioned restaurant offers a Taiwanese menu, with a couple of uncommonly seen dishes (at least in Penang). The place is especially crowded on weekends, so do plan your visit accordingly.

Not something that one should go all out for but if you happen to be in the neighborhood, this can be a decent option.

Yue Dim Sum 粤点粤有 @ Jalan Sungai Ujong, Georgetown, Penang.
Discover a new Dim Sum experience at Yue Dim Sum 粤点粤有, the latest Dim Sum joint in Georgetown. Unlike the localized Dim Sum joints, Yue Dim Sum seeks to bring in authentic Dim Sum dishes from Guangzhou. The kitchen is helmed by a skilled Chef from Guangzhou (China). You would not find the Dim Sum carts or counter here steaming the Dim Sum dishes as all are freshly made to order in the kitchen (so do expect to wait a bit) but you will get piping hot, freshly cooked Dim Sum dishes. Featuring unique Dim Sum selections not commonly seen in Penang (namely the Chinese Pancakes, Soup Dumplings etc), the menu is a celebration of genuine Cantonese Dim Dum flavors (46 Dim Sum dishes for now- more to be added in the near future). For the heat-intolerant, Yue Dim Sum offers a cozy, air-conditioned dining experience.

Ruo Tea 若水植物茶間 @ Pulau Tikus, Penang.
Far from sad mock meats and unnecessary carbs, Ruo Tea 若水植物茶間 at Pulau Tikus is a meatless restaurant that churns out wholesome plant-based dishes with amazing flavors. Found in one of the houses along Persiaran Midlands, Ruo Tea has no fancy signage or exterior. But the interior decor exudes a calm, meditative vibe; the restaurant is covered in wood shades with a corner dedicated for Chinese calligraphy. Seats are limited in the restaurant and may be less accommodating for larger groups, reservations are highly recommended. The restaurant churns out a Chinese menu, with a Taiwanese-twist. Interestingly, the restaurant has a few rules that diners need to follow (refer to the below photos) and the restaurateur expects the diners to understand before dining in the restaurant (not necessary a bad thing as it gives the necessary space to other diners). We were super happy and satisfied with the food quality (despite the long wait/ do not visit if you are in a rush); Ruo Tea could be one of the best vegetarian restaurants in Penang (in our opinion) that deserves a Michelin-award. Do give it a try if you are up for a meatless meal.

Cheng Zheng Dim Sum 丞蒸点心 @ Georgetown, Penang.
Cheng Zheng Dim Sum 丞蒸点心 is one of the latest Dim Sum joints in town; it has modern decor, clean-accommodating and the place is air-conditioned. The fact that the place offers a cozy dining atmosphere is to attract local young crowd and by far, they are doing a great job. The food offering is not as extensive as compared to some long-established Dim Sum joints in Penang but most of the classic Dim Sum dishes are available, with some special ones (like their signature Portuguese Tarts which are quite good and comparable to Oriental Kopi's). Interestingly, the Dim Sum dishes are reasonably priced considering the the place is air-conditioned with great service (prompt service to assist with hot water refills for the Tea etc). Some hits and misses on the food but if you are seeking for a comfortable space to enjoy a Dim Sum meal with your loved ones, do check this place out.

Wu Niang Niang 吴孃孃骨汤米粉 @ i-Santorini, Tanjung Tokong, Penang.
Wu Niang Niang Noodle Restaurant is new to Penang but the brand has presence in the Klang Valley- known for its unlimited refills of noodles; Wu Niang Niang specializes in serving Sze Chuan-styled noodles with complimentary Sour Plum drink and various condiments (like pickled Mustard) to be added to the noodles. The China Chinese restaurant sets foot in i-Santorini Tanjung Tokong. The business is brisk with heavy crowds especially on weekends. The menu is fairly small but fans of Sze Chuan-style Spicy Noodles would be able to resonate. The place is cramped and does not warrant a comfort dining experience; more like a place for a quick fix.
