Yue Dim Sum 粤点粤有 @ Jalan Sungai Ujong, Georgetown, Penang.

Discover a new Dim Sum experience at Yue Dim Sum 粤点粤有, the latest Dim Sum joint in Georgetown. Unlike the localized Dim Sum joints, Yue Dim Sum seeks to bring in authentic Dim Sum dishes from Guangzhou. The kitchen is helmed by a skilled Chef from Guangzhou (China). You would not find the Dim Sum carts or counter here steaming the Dim Sum dishes as all are freshly made to order in the kitchen (so do expect to wait a bit) but you will get piping hot, freshly cooked Dim Sum dishes. Featuring unique Dim Sum selections not commonly seen in Penang (namely the Chinese Pancakes, Soup Dumplings etc), the menu is a celebration of genuine Cantonese Dim Dum flavors (46 Dim Sum dishes for now- more to be added in the near future). For the heat-intolerant, Yue Dim Sum offers a cozy, air-conditioned dining experience.

Many Thanks for Yue Dim Sum for hosting us.

The never-out-of-fashion classics like Har Kaw, Siew Mai are all available at Yue Dim Sum. All Dim Sum dishes are handmade so you could taste the freshness of the ingredients as well as from the dumpling skins (stale ones have rougher, drier texture). Unique and notable ones include the Red Rice Noodles, Shun De Fried Milk and Chinese Pancakes. The Rice Noodles are wrapping Prawns and fried fritters made of Rice flour. The Soy Sauce and Chili Paste are served separately so to maintain the texture. The idea here is to have a good contrast of texture- crispiness from the fried Rice flour, bouncy-chewiness from the Prawn and silky soft texture from the Rice Noodles; a very different but delicious variant to the popular HK Rice Noodles. The Cantonese might be able to relate for the Chinese Pancakes (known as Pok Chan in Cantonese); essentially its just rice flour mixed with different toppings. A very popular delicacy many years back but its super rare to find one these days. Glad to know that Yue Dim Sum offers both sweet and savory options. The savory option has Lap Cheong, Chives and Dried Shrimps while the sweet one has desiccated Coconut, Peanuts and Sugar. If you do enjoy good Dim Sum, give this place a try.
