The Boomers Hainanese-Western Restaurant @ The Museum Hotel, Georgetown, Penang.

The Boomers (a Hainanese-Western restaurant) is housed within The Museum Hotel Georgetown. Diners should visit with a mindset that this place offers a menu that blends Hainanese cuisine with Western influences, creating a somewhat unique dining experience. Do not expect authentic Hainanese flavors as you might walk away disappointed. The food selection is limited, only a handful of Hainanese-Western dishes, I was hoping to see some Hainanese stir-fries on the menu but no, only those with Western influences. Price points are slightly higher but they commensurate with huge serving portions; those with small appetites should consider food sharing as an option here.

Meat Garage @ Museum Hotel, Jalan A.S. Mansor, Georgetown, Penang.

With a name like Meat Garage, no prizes for guessing what this joint specializes in. Next to Grape Garage, this new place at Museum Hotel specializes in churning out meat, particularly a good steak while its neighbor has some exclusive wines on the rack. Both shops belong to the same management so you can be seated at either place and order any items from either shop. Back to Meat Garage, while there is a fixed ala-carte menu, the meats are actually on display at the display fridge. They are weighed and individually priced so you will need to head over there and choose your piece of meat. Once the doneness is specified, it will be served to you in a jiffy. The ala-carte menu is a little small and revolves around meat either so if you are not a carnivore, look for somewhere else. Price points are slightly on the higher side (especially after the 10% service charge).

Ding Shi (鼎食) @ The Museum Hotel, Georgetown, Penang.

Don't be put off by the slightly odd name, Ding Shi (鼎食) is a family dining spot that offers both local Chinese food and Sze Chuan-influenced delights. Housed in The Museum Hotel (next to Roots  Dessert Bar and The Little Journeyman Cafe), Ding Shi offers a great variety of Chinese food; while most are local Chinese dishes, the place dishes out Sze Chuan-influenced items as well. Notable items include Steamed Dumplings, Sze Chuan Poached Fish, Sze Chuan Dried Hot Pot etc. The setting is comfortable but the place does not accommodate a lot... probably less than 8 tables in total. Prices are slightly on the higher side for the special Sze Chuan dishes (not that they are authentic and flavorsome); our recommendation is to skip the Sze Chuan-influenced dishes and go straight to the local dishes (the Chef seems to be a very experienced Chu Char Chef).

Roots Dessert Bar @ The Museum Hotel, Georgetown, Penang.

New kid on the block- Roots Dessert Bar, joins the plenitude of dessert cafes in Penang but the newly opened dessert bar sure has something up its sleeves- the menu comprises of an array of uncommon desserts has certainly come to merit the title... as a 'dessert bar'. Do not expect to find some conventional cakes here but instead, artisan desserts and pastries that would please any stubborn diners. Taste is not the only thing that they are focusing on, the presentation counts. Inspired to serve plated desserts, Roots pays great attention to its food presentation. Combination and flavors are meticulously paired and thought through; though Roots offers light snacks (jaffles) too but the desserts are probably their core competencies. So go ahead and order their desserts first. Roots Dessert Bar is a few doors away from The Little Journeyman Cafe at The Museum Hotel, off Transfer Road.

The Little Journeyman Cafe @ The Museum Hotel, Georgetown, Penang.

Even though the cafe is a little off the beaten track, it manages to attract a great crowd ever since its opening. But what's the pull factor? A turophile might be able to relate. The Little Journeyman Cafe, a tenant in The Museum Hotel, off Transfer Road and right smack in town; offers a small Western menu (with choices of Pasta, Toast and Sandwiches) but people are attracted to one particular dish- melted Raclette Cheese. The Swiss semi-firm salted Cheese is first melted and scraped on a serving of Potatoes; needless to say... that resonates across social media platforms. It may require extra effort to notice the cafe, the exterior is dull and the signage is small but once inside, it offers the standard cafe-coziness. There are limited numbers of tables and chairs though so if you are planning a visit on a Saturday, do make sure that you have secured your seats.
