Raku Ichi Sushi @ Raja Uda, Butterworth, Penang.

A completely unexpected encounter at this friendly neighborhood of Raja Uda... it's the type of place where you would not even notice its existence despite passing by for many times. But Raku Ichi is known to the nearby folks as one of the decent Japanese restaurants in the vicinity. The brand is popular for its fresh and inexpensive Sushi on the kaiser belt as well as... Japanese Ramen. The Ramen menu is legit... with choices of different Ramen broth; though the prices are on the higher side but they commensurate with good quality. One of the few places in Penang that serves decent Ramen.

Akamaru Ramen- Chasiu and Egg (Rm 18.80)

Kyushu Ramen- Chasiu and Egg (Rm 24.80)

Takoyaki (Rm 7.80/ 6 pieces)

Sushi- Yellow Plate (Rm 1.80)/ Red Plate (Rm 2.80)/ Blue Plate (Rm 3.80)

There was nothing exciting about the Sushi except that they were wallet-friendly. Sizes are generally smaller than most restaurants but they are well-justified by the prices. On Ramen, we had both Akamaru Ramen and Kyushu Ramen; the former option comes with a spicy punch... the spicy-savory combo that any Malaysians would fell in love with. The latter choice was more "Japanese"... with rich and thick Pork broth. We had our noodles in "hard" texture but that gave us better bite (more al-dente). Equally good was the Takoyaki with crispy skin and creamy filling but a pity that the Octopus was too small in size, a little too small that it did not do much in its aid.
