Onya Modern Asian Restaurant @ The Promenade, Bayan Baru, Penang.

Previously known as Golden Bowl (associated with milky Cheese noodles if you still remember), the same group of people is now managing a new brand- Onya Modern Asian Restaurant at The Promenade, Bayan Baru. Unlike the previous menu, Onya rolls out a modern Malaysian menu... featuring many familiar Malaysian delights with a twist. The restaurant at The Promenade is spacious, comfortable and air-conditioned; making it very accommodating for large groups as well as diners of all age range. Dishes are reasonably priced and with a diverse menu, this place could be a popular lunch spot for those working in the vicinity.

Nasi Lemak Ayam Hitam (Rm 18.90)

Milky Soup Noodles (Rm 18.90)

Coconut Smoothie (Rm 14.90)

One of the best sellers- Nasi Lemak Ayam Hitam, comes in a generous portion with- Malay Soy Sauce-cooked Chicken, Papadam, Fried Anchovies, Mango Kerabu, hard boiled Egg and Sambal. The Sambal was sweet with a hint of spiciness and went well with the Rice over Fried Anchovies and Kerabu. The Chicken was alright, though we would prefer it to be more tender but the sauce was flavorful; for Rm 18.90, we thought it offered good value of money. The Milky Soup Noodles paled when in comparison with the Nasi Lemak. The portion was very small but the broth was good. It was nicely seasoned with a generous amount of ingredients like Fish Balls, Fish slices, Squid and Shrimp. We ended the meal with Coconut Smoothie, which we would prefer a stronger Coconut-element here.
