Located along Lorong Carnarvon in George Town, GAIA Petit Terrace Cafe & Restaurant offers a modern take on French cuisine within a stylish and intimate setting. The menu features contemporary French-inspired dishes with elegant presentation, while prices are in line with restaurant expectations rather than typical café fare. Portions lean towards the smaller side, and although the food was decent overall, it did not leave a particularly lasting impression. Service was polite but could have been more attentive, while the ambience felt somewhat reserved and lacked the warmth that often enhances a dining experience. Nevertheless, it remains an option for those looking to explore modern French dining in the city centre.
We started off with Mushroom Toast and Stuffed Jalapeno; the former one was basically sauteed Mushrooms served on a crispy toast, sandwiching some Truffle-infused Mousse. The earthy flavor was bold and the crackling crisp Toast hit the spot. The Stuffed Jalapeno was something different- the stuffing was Fish Paste so making it almost like stuffed Chili in Yong Tofu but the Aoili clearly differentiated both. On the Pasta, the Prawn Bisque Pasta was alright... nicely seasoned with bold Seafood sweetness. The Pasta was al-dentely cooked; the concoction did not manage to wow us unfortunately. It was a decent one but not overwhelmingly good. We were also a little underwhelmed by the serving portion as well as the River Prawn (with amazingly little flesh). The Beef Cheek was good in texture... tender but not overly slouchy. It worked very well with the mashed... our only complain was probably the measly serving portion.
