Hei In Dee Tong 喜在糖里 @ Jalan Kek Chuan, Georgetown, Penang.

Hailing from Guangzhou, China, Hei In Dee Tong (喜在糖里) brings a playful yet comforting take on Chinese desserts to Penang. The dessert parlour offers a good range of sweet soups and chilled treats — from timeless classics to more fun, modern variations — all served in a space with strong Chinese design elements that reflect the brand’s roots. With reasonable pricing and a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere, it’s an easy spot to drop by for a casual dessert fix, whether you’re craving something familiar or slightly different.

None of our orders disappoint nor they were overly sweetened. We started off with the Mochi, which was basically Sesame-paste filled Glutinous Rice Balls but served with salted Cream and some flakes for the extra texture. For the ice treat, we had the Taro Coconut Black Glutinous Rice Shaved Ice. The Coconut element was weak, basically just Coconut Milk but the Taro paste was delicious. The Black Glutinous Rice was not as chewy as we would have hoped but the overall concoction was easy on the palate. We also had their Osmanthus Rice Wine Jasmine Pudding which turned out to be quite refreshing. There were pops of the Rice Wine and the Jasmine Pudding carried a floral aroma. Not shabby at all!
