Katao is the latest addition to Penang’s dining scene, marking its first branch on the island with a cosy spot on Lebuh Bishop, George Town. The restaurant offers a refreshing mix of Thai-Taiwanese influenced dishes, with its signature pot-meal series gaining much praise for generous servings and comforting flavours. The ambience strikes a nice balance — casual yet inviting, perfect for a relaxed meal or small group gathering. Portion sizes are hearty and prices remain reasonable, making it a solid option if you want a hearty, flavourful meal without burning a hole in your pocket.
Thai Pad Kra Pao Gai Noodle Set (Rm 22.90)
Thai South Milky Curry Chicken with Vegetables Pot (Rm 34.90/ served with Japanese Rice)
The Thai Pad Kra Pao Gai comes with 2 options- Noodles or Rice; we opted for the Noodles. The set came with a side of braised Egg, blanched Okra and a soup. Of course- the highlight... Pad Kra Pao Gai as well. The Pad Kra Pao had the quintessential chili kick but it was over-seasoned on its own... probably more suited to spoon over Rice. For the Pot series, we had the Thai South Milky Curry Chicken with Vegetables Pot which came in a huge portion! It could serve up to 2-3 small eaters and it has loads of vegetables in it (including Potatoes). The Curry flavor was bold and it carried a hint of peppery-aftertaste. Not shabby at all.
