Flagship by Navy @ Jalan Hamilton, Jelutong, Penang.

Occupying a space in the newly revamped place right next to Heng Hee High School, Flagship by Navy has received a lot of attention since its opening. The reasons are simple: chic interior with easy-access, free parking. While there are a few more empty spaces in the building, Flagship by Navy occupies the corner lot of the place. Step in the place and you will feel the strong industrial vibe; the menu is quite small (only Pasta dishes for main) with a small selection of desserts and pastries at the order counter. The bar on the other hand, only operates on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays... in the evenings. The place is especially busy on weekends so if you are planning to visit in a big group, do plan ahead. Quite a comfortable space for catch ups over light meals but the price tags can be quite hefty.

Chez Chez Bar Restaurant @ Love Lane, Georgetown, Penang.

Cocktail lovers would be excited to learn that there is a new addition: Chez Chez, modern-contemporary bar and restaurant to the ever-happening Love Lane in central Georgetown. Step in the place and you will be welcomed by a bar counter, showcasing an array of liquors; go in a little further and you will find the dining hall where tables and chairs are well-spaced to allow privacy and comfort. While the Cocktail list is impressive, the food menu is equally exciting. It has a fairly big Western menu (with a European flair) with a couple of local classics. Budget-watchers take note, the price points are on the higher side.

KOGI Korean BBQ @ E-Gate, Gelugor, Penang.

With a name like KOGI (means "meat" in Korean"), it lures a horde of Korean BBQ lovers and the place is often packed and crowded on weekends. The casual Korean restaurant is relatively new but has already gained an appreciate following; apart from the BBQ meat platers, KOGI also churns out familiar Korean delights that any Malaysians can relate to... for example, the Korean Rice Cake, Bibimbap, Korean Pancakes etc. The pocket-friendly price tag is probably another reason why the place rose to be a popular spot at E-Gate. While we enjoy the hospitality and food at KOGI, we did not like the absence of BBQ exhaust hood... in which our clothes were tainted with the BBQ smoke stench. A piece of advice: if you are visiting in a big group, do make advance reservation.

Kakuriyo Ramen @ Pulau Tikus, Penang.

There is no shortage of good Japanese Ramen in Penang but here's another one to add to you list- Kakuriyo Ramen at Pulau Tikus. Kakuriyo just started their business operations few months ago (somewhere in April 2022) and has garnered an appreciate following; the place is often crowded with fans waiting eagerly outside the restaurant during peak hours. The menu is pretty simple and straight-forward, only offering its best- Japanese Ramen... though it comes with different toppings and variations (mainly addition of Garlic Oil, Chili Oil or Miso etc). There are some other Japanese delights on the menu too; items are reasonably priced as compared to some established chain Japanese Ramen joints. But be mindful on the limited tables, this place can be less accommodating for bigger groups so do plan your visit ahead. Kakuriyo Ramen can be found right opposite to the back entrance of Moulmein Rise near Pulau Tikus Market.

Shaan Xi Noodle House 陕西面馆 @ Bishop Street, Georgetown, Penang.

Biang Biang Noodle from Shan Xi China has definitely made its name known to the world; the wide, flat handmade noodle got its name from the slapping sound while it hits the kneading table. With the opening of Shaan Xi Noodle House 陕西面馆, Penangites can finally have a taste on these chewy, filling handmade noodles. This is probably the only place that serves this Chinese delicacy in Penang (for now). The menu is pretty straight-forward... featuring the signature Biang Biang Noodles but with various toppings as well as China Chinese sides. Reasonable prices and generous serving portion, a place worth checking out.

The Fishing Village 小鱼村 @ Lebuh McNair, Georgetown, Penang.

Conveniently located in the heart of Georgetown, The Fishing Village 小鱼村 is one of the latest Thai food additions to the Penang food scene. The newly opened restaurant has a small Thai menu, featuring their signature Tom Yum series (Red Tom Yum, White Tom Yum and Tom Yum with Coconut Milk) as well as Thai Braised Pork Trotter Rice. Choices are quite limited with slightly above average price points but fortunately, they commensurate with generous serving portion. Quality-wise, we thought the Tom Yums were great so if you don't mind paying a little more for quality Tom Yum Noodles, give this place a try.

Tips To Eating Healthy for Busy Moms

So, you are a busy working mom who is forever on her toes, juggling between home and work. You may be secretively proud of your super mom skills and probably get tons of compliments on how you handle it all. But hold on for a minute! Have you had a look at your plate lately and seen what you are eating? Probably not.

If the answer to the above question is “ no, ’then you must read this article which is very important for you. Your body is not getting the valuable nutrition it needs, and you have probably been too busy to focus on yourself.

Given below are some useful tips for busy working moms on how to eat healthily.

Always carry homemade food.

If you say goodbye to some ready-to-cook meals made with processed foods, just that one step can do wonders for your health. Take advantage of meal kit deliveries available in the market that focus on simple meals that are fresh and healthy. Or you could look for some easy and simple recipes based on fresh local ingredients. This is a simple and easy way to get quality nutrition in your daily diet.

  • Tip- Prepare meals at home and read meal delivery service reviews before selecting one based on what you are looking for. Meal delivery services are already getting very popular.

Start with a healthy breakfast.

If you leave your house in a hurry and ignore breakfast, you are making a big mistake. So, those hunger pangs will catch up with you, and you will end up either eating junk or too much coffee, or overeating.

  • Tip- Eat a balanced, satisfying breakfast and use leftover cooked meals if you have no time, but make sure that your breakfast is nutritious and filling. Make a smoothie or an omelet to get those proteins, and add some healthy fats, fruits, and seeds.

 Eat healthier snacks

Do keep away from those unhealthier eating habits, as there are so many different kinds of healthier snacks you can have. You can mush on a small bag of nuts or an apple or any other fruit that you like. Read the labels of the snacks you buy for information on sugar and preservatives and keep away from the unhealthier options.

  • Tip- Browse the local supermarket for healthy snack options, and you are sure to come across some delicious and healthy snacks to support healthy eating. Alternatively, you can make your one recipe based on fiber-rich foods and use what you like as a snack.

 Change your grocery list.

Next time you go shopping for groceries, minimize all those processed foods and load more fresh vegetables and fruits in your cart. If you plan in advance, you will find it a lot easier to prepare meals, and the best part is that you instill some healthy eating habits in your family too. If you have a well-stocked kitchen and freezer with healthier foods, chances are that you will remain motivated to cook healthily and eat healthily.

  • Tip- Involve your family in grocery shopping and give them incentives for eating healthy and making healthier food choices. Get rid of any processed foods and look for options where you can shop for local fresh produce in your city.

Keep in mind that as a mother and woman, the whole family counts on you for everything, the support, the resources, and others. Even if you are not working, you should take good care of your health and fitness so as to always be there for your family. And fitness begins with what you put on your plate!

Haven 埔 @ Greenhall, Georgetown, Penang.

At the far end of Greenhall (opposite SEGI College Penang) where Just Caffe was located.... welcomes a new venture- Haven 埔. The new kid on the block offers traditional local food with a modern twist. The cafe does not carry a big menu but more than good enough to create excitement; expect to see playful dishes like Nasi Lemak Rice Bowl, Sambal Salad Bowl, Purple Potato/Green Tea Kaya Toast etc. Reasonable price points, comfortable dining atmosphere and fast serving speed; perfect for a quick, casual fix.

Mama Thai Best @ Perak Road, Jelutong, Penang.

Folks looking for a Thai quick fix in the Jelutong neighborhood should look no further than Mama Thai Best, a simple-casual eatery that offers a small Thai menu. Mama Thai Best can be found at Perak Road, few doors away from Subway and Domino's; the same place also runs as a Thai mart. But do not expect the goods to be extensive, just some simple but useful ones. Like-wise, the menu also features some Thai delights familiar to Malaysians like Thai-styled Fried Rice, Tom Yam, Mama Mee etc. Prices are very economical though the quality and serving speed could be further improved.

Mott 9 Restaurant 九號公館 @ E-Gate, Gelugor, Penang.

Found right next to The Seven Restaurant  and under the same management team, Mott 9 Restaurant 九號公館 is one of the latest additions to E-Gate. Though both restaurants are sitting next to each other, both offer different menu. The Seven offers a Hunan-inspired menu while Mott 9 has a slightly localized Chinese menu. It would be easier for Penangites to relate as most of the dishes are familiar and can be found in any established Chinese restaurants. The price points however, are slightly on the higher side; also, the tables are not as well-spaced as we would have hoped... so it feels like a little cramped dining over there.
