Shaan Xi Noodle House 陕西面馆 @ Bishop Street, Georgetown, Penang.

Biang Biang Noodle from Shan Xi China has definitely made its name known to the world; the wide, flat handmade noodle got its name from the slapping sound while it hits the kneading table. With the opening of Shaan Xi Noodle House 陕西面馆, Penangites can finally have a taste on these chewy, filling handmade noodles. This is probably the only place that serves this Chinese delicacy in Penang (for now). The menu is pretty straight-forward... featuring the signature Biang Biang Noodles but with various toppings as well as China Chinese sides. Reasonable prices and generous serving portion, a place worth checking out.

Signature Chili Shan Xi Noodles with Tomato Egg and Minced Pork (Rm 18.90)

Tri-Mushroom Vermicelli Noodles (Rm 12.80)

Ma-La Beancurd Skin (Rm 13.80)

The signature Shaan Xi Noodles come in different combo of toppings, the one we had was with Tomato Egg, Minced Pork sauce as well as some Chili flakes. The combo was surprisingly good, all of the elements did not seem that they could work together but surprisingly, they did. The texture of the noodles was good either- addictively chewy and satisfying. We also had the Tri-Mushroom Vermicelli Noodles, the broth was flavorful and reasonably seasoned but we did not like the presence of canned Ham here, somehow it overpowered and destroyed the refreshing earthy flavor from the Mushrooms. For side, we had the Ma-La Beancurd Skin which was expertly seasoned- not too oily with a crunchy, chewy bite.
