Leafy Lane @ Golden Triangle 2, Relau, Penang.

Looking for a guilt-free and tummy-satisfying meal? The classic Hawaiian dish- Poke Bowl is a good choice. It's versatile, rich in flavors and can be matched with different combos. One of the latest spots in Penang for a healthy meal is Leafy Lane, a new addition to Golden Triangle 2 at Relau. The place is a little hard to spot due to its location on the 3rd floor. You can find this place on the 3rd floor of Golden Triangle 2, 2 floors up from 99 Speedmart. Leafy Lane is not a full Poke Bowl-focused entity, their "bowl" series features some specially curated combos and various intriguing versions of the Poke Bowl.

[Travel/ Food Guide] Itinerary to Cameron Highlands, Pahang (金马伦高原,彭亨).

Sharing its border with Perak, Cameron Highlands remains as one of the top tourist destinations in Malaysia for offering a cooling getaway. It is especially popular amongst families with young kids as the place has got many activities to partake with breath-taking natural views. But the place is also infamous for its congested traffic and long-winding road. It is inconvenient to explore Cameron Highlands if you are not driving but the place has undergone some transformations in recent years, with new shopping mall and more eateries being introduced. The core businesses remain unchanged though, it is still the place to source for some of the freshest local produce in the entire country.

Chérie @ C.Y.Choy, Georgetown, Penang.

Folks from Parit Buntar should not be new to the name- Wake Cup Coffee Shop, the cafe was once active there but had since relocated to its current location at Georgetown and rebranded as Chérie. The cafe is currently located at the junction to Lebuh Katz and Jalan C.Y. Choy. The new kid in town has an aesthetically minimalist interior decor with every corner offers photography opportunity. During its soft-launch period, the cafe offers light food with cakes and desserts. A comfortable space to wind down or to catch up with friends... if you don't mind paying a little more.

[Year 2023] Food Hunting- of Cafes/ Must-Eats @ Johor Bahru, Johor.

Johor Bahru, the southernmost city in the Peninsular Malaysia, is a mere 1-hour flight away from Penang. It is also the 2nd largest city in Malaysia. With its strategic location and links to Singapore, the city is often busy. For foodies, Johor Bahru has a lot to offer- from the popular Johor Laksa, Muar Otak-Otak, Koay Teow Kia to Chicken Rice or Banana Cake. The place is best explored by car as some of the good eateries/restaurants are scattered around in the city.

We stayed in GBW Hotel for this trip as we needed to travel to Singapore for a short day trip. The stay was good and there's a link bridge right in front of the hotel which connects to the JB Sentral for Train to Woodlands CIQ (you need not hail a taxi to head there, it is just a short 5-min walk from the hotel). For folks traveling to Singapore but staying in JB, GBW Hotel is a good choice.

Kōyō Coffee @ Bayan Baru, Penang.

Tucked away in an upper floor shop lot at The One Mahsuri (use the stairs right next to Green Island Western Food), Kōyō Coffee is one hidden gem in Bayan Baru area and probably your best bet for Japanese-inspired snacks. The place has a simple, minimalist-mismatch interior decor with limited seats, so it might be less accommodating for bigger groups. Menu-wise, it has a drink menu with a few Japanese-inspired snack options like Mochi, Dango etc as well as a small savory menu (like Sandwiches). Not a place where you get to fill up the tummy but more like a cozy space to hang out over drinks and light snacks.

8AM Hainanese Cafe @ Kimberley Street, Georgetown, Penang.

Probably the only Thai-Hainanese cafe in town, 8AM Hainanese Cafe is a new addition to the Georgetown cafe scene. Right smack in town, the cafe offers a menu with some Thai and Hainanese elements- the Thai element is represented by the Steamed Bread with Sangkaya and Thai Pan Eggs (Khai Krata) while the Hainanese element is represented by the Hainanese Toast. There are also some odd combinations like Polo Bun, Nyonya Kuih and Kolo Mee that make up the numbers. Food items are affordably priced but we hope to see stronger Thai and Hainanese elements here, we thought the menu is a little weak for now.

Laksa Ong 拉沙王 @ Beach Street, Georgetown, Penang.

A popular Laksa joint from Alor Setar- Laksa Ong 拉沙王 has recently expanded to Penang, opening a new branch at Beach Street, Georgetown. The Laksa specialist bringing the signature Laksa dishes to Penang, offering the signature Siam and Assam Laksa... along with other add-ons. Another interesting dish to look forward to at Laksa Ong Penang is their shaved ice series. The place is air-conditioned so you need not worry about having a sweat-inducing meal here.

Mu Ming Coftea 慕茗茶馆 @ Jalan Masjid, Georgetown, Penang.

A new place for tea lovers to explore- Mu Ming Coftea 慕茗茶馆 at Jalan Masjid (off Chulia Street) is a new spot in town for tea lovers and coffee lovers to mingle. It is said to be the first modern Chinese Tea House in Penang, it combines modern brewing technique to traditional Chinese Tea. Apart from beverages, the Tea House also offers some cakes, snacks and light bites. The Tea House is tucked away in a heritage house at the quiet Jalan Masjid (the no-through road where Moh Teng Pheow is located), it is fully air-conditioned and offers a cozy ambiance (though the seating arrangement is less comfortable).
