Tokyo Tonkatsu Aokiya @ Pulau Tikus, Penang.

Located in Pulau Tikus, Tokyo Tonkatsu Aokiya is a newly opened tonkatsu specialist that exudes a homey, understated Japanese vibe. The menu focuses on tonkatsu with some variation across different proteins such as chicken and prawn, offering a bit more range beyond the usual pork options. Prices lean towards the higher side, though this is balanced by consistent quality and the freshness of ingredients. Service can be on the slower end, especially during peak hours, but overall it remains a modest and reliable spot for a comforting tonkatsu experience.

We started off with sides like the Japanese Potato Salad- which was quite classic and straight-forward. We could taste a hint of Ham in it for that extra smoky bite. The Dashimaki Tamago was fresh and served piping hot. It was decent despite the faded-color. Kaki-Furai was okay- at least the Oysters were plump and large in sizes. It has got the inevitably seafood-fishiness in it, but it was still within the acceptable range. The Kaki Furai was served with the classic Mayo combo; it certainly did not disappoint. The Chicken Cutlet was amazingly tender and there were 3 different types of dips and condiments to go with it- Salt and Sesame, Tonkatsu sauce and Ponzu. All 3 offer different flavor combo to the fried meat. Like-wise, the Premium Rose Tonkatsu came in a huge serving portion. The meat could have been more tender but it was still alright.
