Kuala Kurau Sunset Seafood 古楼日落海鲜村 @ Kuala Kurau, Perak.

At the end of the Kuala Kurau Fishing Village is Kuala Kurau Sunset Seafood 古楼日落海鲜村, a place for Seafood lovers to satiate their cravings for freshly caught Seafood. Diners get to enjoy their meal with a sea view. The set up is simple without air-conditioning, so it can be quite warm to dine-in under sultry hot weather. In terms of food offering, the Seafood restaurant offers a Seafood-focused Chinese menu. Depending on the availability, there are plenty of choices to choose from but it is definitely easier to check with the proprietor as to what is the freshest catch of the day. Don't worry, dishes are reasonably priced here and you won't walk away with a hole in the wallet.

Nyonya-style Steamed Stingray (Rm 30)

Kam Heong Crab Claws (Rm 20)

Deep Fried Dragon Tongue Fish (Rm 5 each)

Thai-style Steamed Flower Clams (Rm 20)

Stir Fried Vermicelli Noodles (Rm 6/ small)

We were pleasantly surprised by the generous serving portion of the Stir Fried Vermicelli Noodles. It did not score high, we thought it was slightly under-seasoned but the Wok Hei was there and Sambal Belacan saved the day. No complain for the portion though. We enjoyed the Dragon Tongue Fish, with pristine white flesh and crisply fried. It was expertly seasoned and we thought it was a good order. The best dish of the day must be the Nyonya-style Steamed Stingray- fresh Stingray topped with a concoction of blended Herbs (Ginger, Lemongrass, Galangal, Chilies and some herbs that we could not name); it has a mild acidity but the fresh herbs packed a powerful punch. We also love the freshness of the fish with firm, meaty bite. We were feeling adventurous so we had the Mosaic Crab Claws, an unusual and exquisite delicacy. Mosaic Crabs are not commonly eaten, and if so, only the Claws. The flesh is less meaty and more fibrous. We must say we did not like it.
