Ching Siang Seafood Porridge 清香海鲜茶室 @ Nibong Tebal, Penang.

There are a few reliable, well-established Chinese restaurants when it comes to Seafood Porridge at Nibong Tebal area but this fairly new joint- Ching Siang Seafood Porridge 清香海鲜茶室 at Bukit Panchor (Nibong Tebal) is worth a look. It is popular amongst those staying in the neighborhood, whether a casual quick fix or a weekend family feast. The menu is simple and straight-forward, it revolves around Seafood like Crabs, Lobsters, Mantis Prawns etc but there are also some affordable options. The seafood is fresh and they charge reasonably. Do check it out if you happen to be in the vicinity.

Seafood Porridge (Rm 34 for 3 pax/ with Fish Balls added)

Blanched Octopuses (Rm 15)

Teo Chew Style Steamed Cat Fish (Rm 42/ by weight)

Stir Fried Kai Lan with Salted Fish (Rm 15)

Nutmeg Juice (Rm 13/ bottle)

Ching Siang's Seafood Porridge starts from Rm 10 per pax. The Teo Chew Porridge has a generous amount of Seafood- from Cuttlefish, Prawns, Scallops and Fish. Diners can also top up for extra ingredients like Fish Balls, Lobsters, Mantis Prawns or even Crabs. We were very happy with the quality of the Porridge; the broth was amazing with a deep umami flavors. The seasoning was minimal but the seafood sweetness was bold. We also had their blanched Octopuses and Blood Cockles; they were fresh and delicious. For a change, we had Teo Chew style Steamed Cat Fish but the size was a little too small to our liking. None of the dishes disappoint and the dishes are reasonably charged.
