22 BS River Seafood Restaurant 22 河海鲜楼 @ Bagan Samak, Bandar Baharu, Kedah.

Bagan Samak (a short drive from Bandar Baharu toll/ approximately an hour from Penang island) is known for its Seafood restaurants and the availability of fresh water fishes. 22 BS River Seafood Restaurant 22 河海鲜楼 is one of the latest additions to the Bagan Samak restaurant scene. Opened in early 2022, 22 BS River Seafood Restaurant occupies a big corner lot on the main road. The menu has a little Thai influence but generally, the dishes are Chinese stir fries that most Malaysians are familiar with. The highlight of this place is of course- the Seafood as well as the fresh water fishes. Save for the bothersome infestation of houseflies around the neighborhood; it is safe to say that everyone in our family enjoyed the food here.

Steamed Cat Fish 清蒸白须公 (Rm 7/ 100 gram)

Deep Fried Tilapia with Sweet-Sour Sauce 三味金凤鱼 (Rm 4.50/ 100 gram)

Steamed Squid and Flower Clams with Thai Seafood Sauce 泰式酸酐蒸苏东拉拉 (Rm 40/ small)

Sour Plum Chicken 酸梅鸡 (Rm 20/ small)

Stir Fried Paku Ferns with Sambal 巴古菜 (Rm 16/ large)

Tuak/ Coconut Wine 椰花酒 (Rm 16 per bottle)

We had 2 types of fresh water fish- Catfish and Tilapia. We had the Catfish steamed with the usual Chiense Soy Sauce but could not understand on the presence of Tomatoes here. The fish on the other hand, was fresh and the meat was thick. The one we had was weighing at 1.2KG, just good enough for some pockets of fats. The Tilapia was deep fried and served with Sweet and Sour sauce. The sauce was nicely concocted with a balance medley of sweet, sour and spicy notes. The rest of the dishes did not disappoint too and they were very generous with the serving portion. For those who are interested, 22 BS River Seafood Restaurant serves Tuak (Coconut Wine) too, selling at RM16 per bottle.
