Antipodean Cafe @ Central Gurney, Penang.

A big name in the Kuala Lumpur cafe scene- popular Kiwi-Australian style cafe: Antipodean Cafe is finally in Penang now. The latest outlet can be found at Central @ Gurney (ground floor of G Hotel Gurney Drive). The Penang Antipodean Cafe brings along some of its signature dishes like the Big Breakfast, Egg Benedict etc, the price points are in the mid-high range (for a cafe standard). The cafe has a casual, relaxed al-fresco vibe; making it ideal for both casual meet ups over drinks or even a leisure brunch.

We were delighted to see how well presented the Eggs Marlborough with Smoked Salmon was. One of the Eggs was unfortunately slightly over-poached; the Hollandaise sauce was creamy with a mild acidity. The Toast was alright though a little dense; the Smoked Salmon was good too but the whole concoction was slightly under-seasoned to our liking. We liked the Orzo Pasta with Mushroom and Feta better; the Pasta was expertly cooked and the dish carried a bold earthy aroma while the Feta Cheese introduced a salty-creaminess to the dish. The fresh Basil was there to cut through the greasiness; something unusual but delicious. We ended the meal with a sweet treat- Souffle Cheese Pancake but we were convinced with the Cheese-factor. We could not taste the Cheese but merely soft, fluffy Souffle Pancakes with caramel sauce. There were a few Banana slices but we were hoping for Berries or something more refreshing to go with the Pancakes. For Rm 30, we thought it was a little overpriced.
