Wong Chau Jun Restaurant (王昭君酸辣鱼头米粉) @ Rangoon Road, Georgetown, Penang.

Said to be one of the first few establishments in Penang that offers Fish Head Bee Hoon a couple decades back, Wong Chau Jun is a big name for Penangites whom are old enough to hear of the name. It is one of the popular weekend brunch places for those families with deep pockets. The simple and straight-forward menu suits diners from all age groups, making it a family-friendly dining place in Georgetown. Wong Chau Jun is famed for its variants of Fish-related noodles- steamed Fish with Hor Fun, Spicy-Sour Fish Head Bee Hoon are some of the popular choices. While the prices are of acceptable range, we did not think their food was mind-blowing....

Spicy-Sour Fish Head Bee Hoon Soup (Rm 10.50/ small)

We raised our eyebrows when the dish- Stir Fried Bee Hoon with Fried Fish was served to our table. It was something out of our expectation... it was wet. We'd prefer our Stir Fried Bee Hoon dry and packed with an alluring charred aroma; unfortunately, they were no where to be found (in this particular dish). The Spicy-Sour Fish Head Bee Hoon is certainly a popular order in Wong Chau Jun, the soup was addictive and most appetizing, but it lacked spiciness. The bird's eye chilies had not done much in its aid but as far as acidity was concerned, it did hit the mark.

The dish that we probably enjoyed most was the Steamed Fish with Hor Fun, the premium Soy sauce carried the much-necessary salinity with a sleek sweetness. The seasonings were not overwhelming and the Fish was fresh.
