BOH Tea Plantation/Center @ Sungai Palas, Cameron Highlands.

So for those of you who are following me on my Kenhuntfood Facebook Page, you would have known that I've traveled down to Cameron Highlands for the past few days. It has been quite some time since my last visit to Cameron Highlands, during the planning stage for the trip, I've found that this place was rather attractive and interesting to me. Hence, I've decided to include this place as part of my itinerary. Located at Sungai Palas, North of Brinchang (a town in Cameron Highlands), BOH Tea's farm is known to be one of the largest tea farms in Malaysia, as well as the largest Black Tea producer in Malaysia. The road to BOH Tea Plantation at Sungai Palas was narrow and winding, do beware of cars coming from the opposite direction. It is recommendable to hire a local taxi to drive you there. My thought on this place will be: the place worth the visit for its fresh air, eye-opening experience on the tea plantation as well as the breath-taking scenery and good ambiance.

Upon entering the BOH Tea Center, guests will be welcomed by the aromatic fragrance of the tea leaves, interested parties can opt to visit their Museums and Tea Shops (for souvenirs) right beside the cafe. However, my main focus for this blog entry would definitely be their cafe.

The cafeteria at BOH Tea Center offers a wide array of pastry cakes with affordable prices. Visitors can also choose your favorite teas among the wide selection of teas available, some of the more unique ones (Aromatic Garden Teas) are Palas Supreme, Gunung Chantik, Bukit Cheeding and Palas Afternoon Tea. They do serve cold drinks either but due to the chilly weather at Cameron Highlands during my visit, we've opted for the unique Aromatic Garden Teas. Visitors can place the orders at the counter and collect them at the other end of the counter. It is recommendable to pick the tables near the balcony for the breath-taking scenery and fresh air. Well you can say that it will be windy and chilly outside but that was exactly one of the reasons why you visit Cameron Highlands, no?

I was searching for some useful information over the net before my trip and I've came across this cafe on some random blogs and they were recommending their Scones. As such, I had their Blueberry Scone with Whipped Cream (Rm 7.50). I was very disappointed by their Scones, it doesn't taste like what they have commented saying how good it was, the Scone was dry and has a rough texture. Scones are meant to be fluffy and moist. The Blueberry flavor did not stand out to me either, it was none other than a bland and dry piece of bread. The Whipped Cream doesn't help too much as it wasn't aromatic and fragrant enough to push the Scone to another level. One of the best Scones I had would definitely be Chalet Healy Teamroom back in Perth, Australia.

We also had their Carrot Cake (Rm 5.50) which comes in a small portion, spread with a thin layer of Cream and topped with some Chocolates. The Carrot Cake wasn't moist enough to my liking but I'd say it was okay, considering it wasn't too sweet. The flavor from the shredded Carrots can still be tasted and I would say that this wasn't a bad choice after all.

Chocolate Brownie (Rm 6.50) was one of the best choices of the day. The moist and flavorful Chocolate Brownie was topped with a layer of melted Chocolate. This piquant and tasty Brownie wasn't as sweet as it looks yet it was fulled with the Chocolate flavor. It goes well with the Hot Garden Teas as well. Highly recommended for Chocolate lovers.

Their Coconut Tarts (Rm 3.50) was just okay to me but some of my friends adore its strong and nutty Coconut flakes and the Coconut flavor infused within. I find it too dry to my liking, it would be perfect if they can just give the tart a moist.

We also had their Chocolate Roll for Rm4.50. The Chocolate Roll tasted very common to me, just plain melted Chocolate bring wrapped with a layer of hard (not crispy) pastry. It would be ideal if they could serve the Chocolate Roll hot to us. I would definitely go for the Chocolate Brownie instead of this.

Their Custard Bar (Rm 3.80) was surprisingly okay for me, though it tasted pretty common but the pastry was crispy, it stands out more to me as compared to the Chocolate Roll. The Custard wasn't too sweet and was just perfect to my liking.
