Cicerellos Fish N Chips @ Fremantle, Perth, Western Australia.

In case you are not aware of, kindly refer to About Me column to know more on my current location. So Fremantle is known as one of the best places in Perth that offers fresh and affordable seafood (such as Oysters, Scallops, Mussels, Squids etc) and one of the most famous places amongst tourists and locals is this Cicerellos Fish N Chips (there are two outlets in total, one being Fremantle's and the other one is located at Mandurah). Claimed to be the first amongst equal in Western Australia, Ken had decided to have an impromptu visit to check their famous Fish N Chips out. Its very easy to locate Cicerellos, from Bus Station or Train Station, walk towards the esplanade area, where you will find deep blue sea behind some shop houses/ restaurants where Cicerellos is one of them. The place will normally be loaded with crowd (particularly tourists) especially during weekends, but the restaurant has sufficient seats and tables to accommodate the crowd, they do host private functions as well and the place is available for reservation. Price-wise, I find it okay by Australia (WA) standards and the quality will be guaranteed.

I strongly recommend their Fresh Oysters (Aud $ 14.30, Half Dozen), they were so fresh and well-kept. The oysters were creamy, succulent and sweet in its own way, a squeeze of some lemon juice will push the oysters to a whole different level, some may prefer Tabasco Sauce but I find too over-powering. This is definitely a must-try item if you were to visit this place.

How can one leaves Fremantle without trying their Fish N Chips right ? We were quite full after the famous Japanese Ramen at the Fremantle Market and found that it was unnecessary to have those fries, so we just opted for the Fish only. These were their Snapper Fish (two pieces for Aud $ 11.60), two lightly battered and fresh Snapper fillet were deep fried till perfection, and accompanied by a slice of lemon. Australians do take these Fish N Chips with some salt, pepper and Vinegar as well. The fish was so tender and juicy, it was not as dry as I thought it would be since it was being deep fried and in terms of oiliness, I thought that it might be very oily too, but I was wrong, apparently their way of controlling the oil was very good. Simply sprinkle some salt and pepper onto the fish, with a touch of lemon juice will brings out its flavor. Uniquely delicious.

Just to share one of my favorite shots of the day.

  3. I love oysters...with a squeeze of lemon. As much as I love tabasco, somehow I've hardly taken it with oysters.
