ROKKA Robatayaki by Little June Sushi @ Jelutong, Penang.

One of the newer Japanese restaurants in Jalan Hamilton, ROKKA Robatayaki offers a menu of Japanese favourites with contemporary fusion influences, from robatayaki and sushi to various hot dishes. Service was friendly and attentive throughout the meal, while the food was generally decent. However, prices are above average, and I felt the quality and portion sizes did not quite justify the premium.

Unagi Claypot Rice (Rm 58)

Laksa Udon (Rm 28)

Okonomiyaki (Rm 18)

Salmon Nigiri (Rm 4 each)

The Unagi Claypot Rice was basically Grilled Eel glazed with a sweet soy-based sauce, served in a claypot with rice, seaweed, tamagoyaki and tobiko. A decent rendition, although the portion size may leave some wanting more considering the premium pricing. The Laksa Udon on the other hand, was a little exotic. It has this Tom Yum-Laksa like acidity and aroma, which was quite a refreshing change to the usual Japanese-styled Yaki Udon. The Salmon Sushi did not quite stand out from what similarly priced Japanese restaurants offer unfortunately.
