Bajie Gamjatang at Karpal Singh Drive brings a lesser-seen North-Eastern Chinese dining style to Penang, blending hearty Chinese flavours with noticeable Korean influences, particularly through its signature Gamjatang — a rich pork bone soup that takes centre stage on the compact menu. While the overall selection remains fairly limited, the restaurant makes up for it with a handful of unique cold dishes and side items that add some variety to the experience. Prices are generally reasonable considering the generous style of cooking, and quality overall comes across solid and satisfying without being overly refined.
Kimchi Pork Gamjatang (Rm 38/ small)
Seafood Pancake (Rm 19.80)
Yanbian Spicy Chicken Feet (Rm 16.80)
Kimchi (Rm 3.50)
Waxberry Lemon Fruit Punch (Rm 12)
The signature Kimchi Pork Gamjatang seemed spicy at first, but the seasoning was in fact, mild. It was not spicy at all, and we thought it could be better seasoned. The broth carried bold porky notes. There were some Enoki Mushrooms, Potatoes, Kimchi, Tofu and of course, Pork Ribs. The meat was cooked till fork-tender and perfect for sharing. The Seafood Pancake was a little thick to our liking, and they could be more generous with the Seafood. The Yanbian Spicy Chicken Feet was an interesting one. Not only it was lip-burningly spicy, but the Chicken Feet was also tender... making it dangerously addictive. While the complimentary side dishes were delicious, we were a little underwhelmed that no Kimchi was served. We had to top up RM3.50 for that extra plate of Kimchi (and we highly recommend you to do so- the Kimchi was delicious!).
