Tucked away in Bukit Mertajam, Wu Dong Jia 吳東家 keeps things simple and comforting, focusing on familiar Taiwanese flavors done right. The setting is fuss-free and relaxed, making it suitable for an easy lunch or dinner without much planning. Portions are generous, prices stay reasonable, and the menu leans towards crowd-pleasing classics that feel familiar and satisfying. It’s the kind of place you would return to when you’re looking for something uncomplicated yet dependable.
The signature Taiwanese Style Chicken Rice was delicious, even we had the medium portion, we thought the serving would fit any average eater. The sauce carried a hint of sweetness and the soul to the dish was the Fried Shallots which packed a powerful punch of flavor. Seemingly simple but comes with great satisfaction. We were also pleasantly surprised by the Taiwanese Hot Pot, the serving portion was huge. We had the Herbal Soup base... with Dang Gui and various Chinese Herbs. The soup itself was light and easy on the palate. The Hot Pot came with loads of vegetables (like Cabbage, Enoki, Corn, Bean Curd etc). For protein, we opted for the Australian Beef Slices... which required a top up of RM2.80 (no top up for Chicken or Pork). On the Carbs- there is an option to choose between Rice or Noodles; we had the latter one. Great value I must say.
