HK 1987 @ Island 88, Penang.

A new addition to Island 88, HK 1987 is tucked away on the mezzanine floor of the building. The restaurant offers a wide variety of Hong Kong delights, with a particular focus on HK-style claypot rice and an extensive range of stir-fried dishes. Portions are generous and prices are reasonable, making it a versatile spot that caters well to diners of all ages. With its large menu and hearty servings, HK 1987 is worth checking out for those craving comforting Hong Kong flavors in Penang.

Mui Choy Chicken Claypot Rice 梅菜鸡煲仔饭 (Rm 25.90)

Stir Fried Beef Hor Fun 干炒牛河 (Rm 21.90)

We were told that their serving portion can be really huge and would fit more than one pax... true enough. Both the Claypot Rice and Stir Fried Hor Fun came in huge portion. The Mui Choy Chicken Claypot Rice was alright- though slightly under seasoned and we had to top up with Soy Sauce, we thought the flavor-combo worked. One serving of the Claypot Rice could fit up to 2 small eaters. The Stir Fried Hor Fun was very similar to Penang Char Koay Teow, probably due to the finer rice noodles. The Wok Hei was there but a pity that the Beef was overly tough to our liking. Good for sharing and might be too much for one to finish entirely.
