San Xi Lou 三希楼 @ Gurney Paragon Mall, Penang.

The renowned Hong Kong restaurant San Xi Lou has made its Malaysian debut at Gurney Paragon Mall, introducing a refined mix of Sichuan and Cantonese cuisine. Established in Hong Kong since 2007, the restaurant is famed for its bold flavours and elegant presentation. The Penang outlet on Level 6 offers a good selection of both Cantonese and Sichuan delights as well as a selection of dim sum — making it a noteworthy new spot for elevated Chinese dining in Penang.

Sichuan Spicy Chicken 麻辣口水鸡 (Rm 38/ portion)

Pan Seared Green Chili Peppers 虎皮尖椒 (Rm 38)

Sichuan Dan Dan Noodles 正宗四川担担面 (Rm 18)

Hor Fun Soup with Roasted Goose 烧鹅河粉 (Rm 42)

For starters, we had the Sichuan Spicy Chicken and Pan Seared Chili Peppers. The former one was drenched in a pool of scorching red Chili Oil with a hint of Peanut sauce. The sauce was expertly concocted- not overly spicy but had all the flavors ticked. The Chicken was unfortunately on the tougher side. The Pan Seared Chili Pepper was nicely done too- the Peppers maintained the crunch while the sauce gave them the savory element backed by a hint of Black Vinegar (and the acidity). We enjoyed the Sichuan Dan Dan Noodles a lot, we thought the noodles were silky smooth and the sauce was beautifully concocted. The spicy element was there and the Peanut flavor was bold as well. For tummy filler, we had the Hor Fun Soup (which was nothing out of the ordinary) but served with Roasted Goose. San Xi Lou commands higher prices but they do delivery on quality.
