From humble beginnings at a food court near Weld Quay back in 2018, SmokePapa BBQ has since found a new home at Bishop Street, continuing its mission of bringing Texas-style smoked barbecue to the heart of Penang. Helmed by Pitmaster Chef Hong, the restaurant focuses on barbecued meats done low and slow—its signature smoked ribs being a crowd favorite. The menu spans across various cuts, from poultry to heartier meats, all crafted with smoky depth and bold flavors.

Starting with the Truffle Mushroom Soup, Chef Hong uses fresh Mushrooms that are grilled and smoked for that unique charred aroma. One of which is Portobello, hence the bold earthy Mushroom flavor. Drizzles of Truffle Oil will be then added to give it a final boost; definitely one of the best Mushroom Soups in Penang. Pasta lovers are not forsaken here as SmokePapa offers Pasta dishes as well. On the best sellers and signatures, Babi Moo is definitely one of the popular choices. The set meant for 2 features the signature Pork Ribs, Guinness Pork Burnt Ends, Angus Beef Brisket, Soft Rolls, Corn Bread and 2 sides (in our case- Mac N Cheese and Coleslaw). The signature smoked Pork Ribs are slow cooked to perfection, combining the best of smoking and grilling techniques. Both the Ribs and Beef Briskets are fork-tender and packed a flavorful punch. Good on its own but even better with their homemade Chili sauce, which introduces a sleek Chili heat.
