Meng Kei Chicken Rice 鈱记滑鸡 @ CY Choy, Georgetown, Penang.

At the helm of an ex-hotelier, Meng Kei Chicken Rice 鈱记滑鸡 at CY Choy dishes out soft and tender boiled Chicken daily, together with carbohydrates like Rice, Porridge, Noodles etc. The restaurant is spacious and air-conditioned. With reasonably priced items, Meng Kei is a familiar spot among those living and working nearby, the restaurant sees a steady stream of regulars who keep coming back for more.

Boiled Chicken (Rm 28/ half bird)

Century Egg Porridge (Rm 7.50)

Koay Teow Th'ng (Rm  7/ small)

Blanched Bean Sprouts (Rm 3.50/ small)

Braised Egg (Rm 2.20 each)/ Braised Bean Curd (Rm 3 each)/ Braised Chicken Feet/ Braised Pork Ears

We had the signature Meng Kei Boiled Chicken, which was decent- tender meat garnished with a generous amount of Garlic Oil. The Soy Sauce was not as flavorful as we would have hoped. The Koay Teow Th'ng was alright too, the noodles were light and silky smooth while the broth was reasonably seasoned. It came in a huge portion for only Rm 7. Unlike creamy Cantonese Porridge, Meng Kei's came somewhere between the Hokkien and Cantonese version. However, it possessed a super strong flavor from the chicken broth. Again, big portion. The braised goodies were fine too, not overly exciting but good addition to the meal. Overall, we thought it was a solid, safe and no-frills meal; something that you can eat on a regular basis.
