Damas Arabic Restaurant @ Burmah Road, Georgetown, Penang.

Bringing the rich, authentic flavors of the Middle East to Penang- the newly opened Damas Arabic Restaurant at Burmah Road (a stone's throw distance away from New World Park) captures the essence of Damascus (the capital city of Syria) with its signature dishes. Step in the place and you will find yourself in a classy yet cozy setting with elements from the Middle East; the menu features a big variety of Middle Eastern delights... from the timeless Hummus, Baba Ganoush to Kebabs, Rice, Shawarma and even some Western-fusion choices. Dishes are reasonably priced and the service is most attentive, a place worth checking out if you yearn for Middle Eastern cuisine.

Hummus (Rm 15) with complimentary Bread

Fattoush Salad (Rm 17)

Damas Chicken Shawarma Platter (Rm 35)

Mint Tea (Rm 10/ pot)

We started off with the quintessential Hummus- perfectly creamy with a good salinity; every order of the Hummus (or dips like Baba Ganoush) would come with a complimentary serving of freshly baked Bread. The Bread was pillowy soft with a good Cinnamon-like fragrance. It worked super well with the creamy-savory Hummus. We were also introduced to Fattoush Salad, one of the most-ordered Salads. It had great Middle Eastern flavors, mainly due to Olives and various vegetables like Tomatoes, Cucumber, Capsicum etc. The crispy toppings added a nice crunch to the Salad; also the extra touch of Balsamic Glaze for the sweetness. We were shocked at the portion of the Shawarma Platter, with Fries and pickles as sides. We love the crispiness of the Shawarma wrap and the generous amount of grilled Chicken (if we must nitpick- a tad too dry). Good for sharing though... might be a little too much for one to finish entirely.
