Mea1 一顿 @ Golden Triangle 2, Relau, Penang.

Mea1 一顿  is the latest addition to Golden Triangle 2; from the outside- the place looks like a curious cafe in shades of wood but the menu says otherwise. It is in fact a restaurant offering a modern, playful Malaysian-fusion menu, featuring Nasi Lemak with a twist, Japanese Curry and some Chinese dishes. It also churns out some freshly baked French pastries like Croissants, Madeleines, Croffins etc. Expect to spend RM30 to RM40 per pax for a meal here.

Japanese Curry Chicken Katsu Rice (Rm 25)

Nasi Lemak with Fried Chicken (Rm 18)

Croissant with Kaya and Butter (Rm 14)

Sesame Madeleine (Rm 5.50)

Peach Tea (Rm 8)

When French Croissant meets Malaysian's pride- Kaya... the homemade Croissant itself was good. It was flaky and buttery, the Kaya introduced a gentle sweetness to the French pastry. We would prefer the Kaya to have a stronger egg-aroma though. The Sesame Madeleine was somewhat special... bold Sesame flavor with a sweet, crumbly texture unlike any other Madeleine.... good for a change. For main, we enjoyed the Japanese Curry with Chicken Katsu, we thought the Japanese Curry was beautifully done with a good consistency. We could taste the fruit-sweetness within and the Potatoes were fried before adding to the Japanese Curry so the texture was there. We also liked the fact that they topped it off with a Soft-Boiled Egg... the flowy Egg Yolk just made everything better. The Nasi Lemak with Fried Chicken paled in comparison with the Japanese Curry. The Sambal was a let down... we prefer ours to carry a sleek sweetness but Mea1's was savory with no sweetness. The Anchovies were salty too and we did not like the batter of the Fried Chicken, we thought the whole concoction was a tad too dry in texture. The fun part was the Rice... not the usual Coconut Milk-packed Nasi Lemak but fluffy Basmathi Rice with a bold Lemongrass-Ginger aroma... something exquisite.
