Laksamana @ Chulia Street, Georgetown, Penang.

Penang is never short of Laksa but the newly opened Laksamana at Chulia Street is another great place for a bowl of delicious Laksa. The new Laksa specialist can be found at Chulia Street, right above Family Mart (2nd floor). Location-wise, the place is a little hidden but the interior decor is cozy, spacious and brightly-lit. The menu features Laksa (both Assam Laksa or Lemak Laksa), Nasi Lemak and some shaved ice desserts.

Nyonya Assam Laksa (Rm 12.90)

Siam Lemak Laksa (Rm 13.90)

Aromatic Matcha Shaved Ice (Rm 22.80)

We tried both signature Assam Laksa and Lemak Laksa; we found the latter one appealed more to us. It had all the boxes ticked- generous amount of herbs, the right amount of creaminess (lemak) and good noodle texture (like Vermicelli noodles)... as good as those in Balik Pulau, if not better. The Assam Laksa was find but a tad too sour to our liking. The choice of noodle was great though, it has the chewy texture. We would also prefer more vegetables to be added... for the juicy crunch. Sweet ender was the Matcha Shaved Ice (something like Bingsu) served with a Bamboo container. It has an overly generous addition of Red Beans, Corn Flakes... turned out to be quite sweet. Good for sharing, doubtful if one is able to finish on his/her own.
