Double Six Cafe 六六咖啡馆 @ Terengganu Road, Georgetown, Penang.

Double Six Cafe 六六咖啡馆 gets busy as early as 7 am in the morning, this place is now a popular breakfast place for those staying in the neighborhood. It is housed in a corner lot along Terengganu Road, offering Malaysian delights at unbeatable prices. Their signature dishes include Xixiami (a hybrid version of Jawa Mee and Teluk Kumbar Mee Udang), Nasi Lemak, Kaya Butter Toast as well as Pork Lard Rice. The place is not air-conditioned so expect the sultry hot weather to kick in after 9 am but still worth checking out.

Classic Xixiami (Rm 8.90)

Pork Lard Rice (Rm 8.90)

Sambal Udang Nasi Lemak (Rm 9.90)

Kaya Butter Toast (Rm 3) and Half Boiled Kampung Eggs (Rm 3)

Nothing overly exciting for the Kaya Butter Toast, in fact, we found it a tad too dry to our liking. The Nasi Lemak with Sambal Udang was good. The Rice has a strong Coconut Milk fragrance but the real draw was the Sambal Udang- sweet, aromatic with a hint of spiciness. It worked really well with the Nasi Lemak. On the signature Xixiami, it felt like Jawa Mee but served with Mee Udang's broth (sans the crustacean sweetness); familiar yet feeling refreshed. The Prawn Crackers were good too- added a nice touch and dimension to the dish. Some hits and misses but if you are in the vicinity, do give this place a try.
