River Tropics Food Court 雨林饮食中心 @ Permatang Pauh, Butterworth, Penang.

It's easy to miss River Tropics Food Court 雨林饮食中心, the food court is a little hidden from the main road. To reach River Tropics, take the exit to Permatang Pauh from North-South Highway and upon turning into Permatang Pauh, take the sharp left turn and follow the signage to reach to the restaurant. In the mornings, the restaurant offers Dim Sum and it serves Thai food starting noon. The Thai selection is fairly small as compared to some well-established Thai restaurants. The food quality is alright but it is the river view that makes this place stands out.

Thai Green Curry Chicken (Rm 20)

We like the Thai Green Curry Chicken for its creaminess and good Green Curry flavor, backed by Basil aroma. Though Chicken Breast was used, the meat was perfectly tender and good to spoon over rice. The Kerabu Chicken Feet was okay-average, nothing out of the ordinary. As for the Fried Red Snapper Kaeng Som, we were a little underwhelmed. First, it was not as spicy as we would have hoped. The broth did not offer the right in-depth flavors to the fish but fortunately, the fish was fresh. Equally disappointing was the Mango Sticky Rice, the Glutinous Rice was stale and dry on texture. They could be more generous with the Coconut Cream too (not that it was at the right consistency, it was a little diluted to our liking). Also, we did not like how they served us the Mango, they should be properly cut so it could go well with the Glutinous Rice.
