Ginza Pastry Cafe @ Golden Triangle 2, Bayan Lepas, Penang.

A new place at Relau for bread lovers to explore is Ginza Pastry Cafe, one of the latest additions to Golden Triangle 2. With a Japanese name, the bakery cafe rolls out a series of Japanese-inspired buns, loaves, pastries and cakes. There are plenty of options at Ginza Pastry Cafe, not only the usual bread but some freshly steamed buns, Macarons, cakes or even sandwiches. The prices are surprisingly wallet-friendly, it's just that the seats are cramped and less-accommodating for larger groups (not very comfortable for small groups either).

Steamed Pandan Coconut Bun (Rm 16.90)

Danish Wheel Strawberry (Rm 6.80)

Plain Croissant (Rm 4.20)

French Crepe Cake (Rm 14.90/ slice)

An order for the signature Steamed Buns will require a minimum 15-minute wait. Not all options were available during our visit, we chose the Steamed Pandan Coconut Bun in the end. It was served to us piping hot with an impossible soft-pillowy texture. Each order of the Steamed Buns is served with 3 different spreads. Not sure if it is the same for others, ours came with Taro spread, Kaya and a dollop of Butter. No doubt the Buns were good with airy-soft texture but for Rm 16.90, we did not think it was worth it and more for the novelty experience. The "wow" factor was not there and no, the Buns were not filling at all, more for novelty indulgence. The Croissant was alright, the server did heat it up for us before serving to our table (for dine-in). It was flaky and slight buttery; not as buttery as we would have hoped but for Rm 4.20, we thought it was okay. We've also tried one piece of the French Crepe Cake, I thought the cream was good but my better half disagreed and thought the Crepe was a little too thick to her liking.
