Hwa Ting 华亭 @ Malay Street, Georgetown, Penang.

Hwa Ting 华亭 at Lebuh Melayu has been around for a while, many sang their praises on the signature Wan Ton Noodles. It is easy to miss this place but do look for the huge Chinese signage a few doors away from La Vie En Rose Patisserie and Bao Teck Tea House. The menu is not big but it offers those local comfort food that everyone can relate to, for instances- Pork Noodles, Curry Noodles, Wan Ton Noodles, Nasi Lemak etc. Price points are reasonable and the air-conditioned place warrants a comfortable space for a quick fix. But you will need some luck to find a parking spot though.

Fresh Prawn Dumpling Soup 鲜虾云吞汤 (Rm 12.90/ 6 pcs)

We must say we enjoyed the Signature Spicy San Tan Mee a lot, save for the overly greasy sauce, the texture of the noodle was spot on. The noodles were tossed in Pork Lard, exactly like those Wan Ton Mee that we tasted in the olden days. The Chili Paste gave it a hint of spiciness but not overly so. We were puzzled when they served the Coconut Milk to us, we were told that it should be introduced to the noodles and so we did. Not too shabby but we did not think it was necessary. The Signature Curry Egg Noodles combine Wan Ton Noodles with Curry Noodle soup, pretty straight-forward but the taste did not disappoint.
