Nero Nero Penang @ King Street, Georgetown, Penang.

A brand started in Kuala Lumpur, Nero Nero has expanded its business operations up north to Penang recently... opening a new branch at King Street, right next to Wisma Great Eastern near Esplanade. Known to dish out hearty Italian fare, Nero Nero Penang has drawn a great crowd since its opening with relentless walk-ins and big reservations. Our visit on Saturday Noon was without reservation and we had to resort to a bar seat, the dining hall was full! The 'bistro Italian' concept of the restaurant places great emphasis over the freshness of ingredients, with an aim to offer value for money meal in a modern-comfortable setting. The menu is fairly big, featuring many Italian delights... with some uncommon ones as well as some familiar names. Price points are definitely above average but expect to be served with big serving portion as well as beautiful Italian flavors. If you are coming in a big group, make sure you make your reservations.

Nero Nero Bruschetta (Rm 35)

Rigatoni Amalfitani (Rm 58)

Calzone Pizza (Rm 47)

We started on a high note with Nero Nero Bruschetta- perfectly toasted French bread served with Spicy Tuna as well as Cherry Tomatoes and Basil; both were expertly seasoned on the dot. We enjoyed the timeless combo of Cherry Tomatoes and Basil more... for its refreshing and addictively juicy texture. The extra fine touch of Parmesan Cheese added a sleek salinity to the dish. Served to our table piping hot, the Rigatoni Amalfitani was delicious. The Rigatoni was beautifully cooked with an addictive al-dente texture, the Lamb Sausage meat sauce was nicely done either. Both amalgamated perfectly, the acidity from the Tomato sauce cuts through the greasiness and offered a refreshing balance to the dish; quite a hearty portion and sharing is suggested. We were intrigued by the look of Calzone and went for it. The crust was pretty much nice but there was too much moist inside and the crispy texture did not last long. It was a little too hefty and monotonous for the 2 of us to finish... probably suited for a big group of diners to share. The filling was basically Ham, Mozzarella Cheese, Button Mushrooms and some Tomato Sauce as well as a touch of Basil.
