With the 2023 list of Penang Michelin Star winners unveiled last month, the topic has become the talk of the town- everyone has its own opinions on the list. Nevertheless, one must recognize the effort behind in promoting the Penang food culture as well as introducing Penang to the rest of the world. For the uninitiated, the Michelin Guide is a guidebook that has been published by the French tyre company- MICHELIN since 1900. The guidebook recognizes establishments with outstanding culinary performance in related aspects and till today, it is seen as one of the most reputable international food guides. It is also an assurance and attestation to a certain standard of quality.

The Michelin Guide has a few distinctions and a total of 46 food establishments were recognized in the Michelin Guide 2023- including 2 restaurants with ONE Michelin Star, 17 Michelin Bib Gourmand and 27 Michelin Selected as well as one Michelin Young Chef Award; adding another proud accolade to the renowned Penang food scene. To commemorate the moment, the Penang State Government and its tourism bureau- Penang Global Tourism organized an appreciation and recognition night for the Michelin Star Awardees. The event- "Penang is MICHELIN Star Glazed" celebration was held in Amari SPICE Penang on 10 January 2023.
