Chen Ji 晨记 @ Air Hitam, Penang.

Found near the small neighborhood of Happy Valley at Air Hitam (near Paya Terubong), the recently opened Chen Ji 晨记 specializes in home-made Yong Tofu and Noodles. The menu is small, offering only their signature dishes. Do not expect the place to have heavy decorative or any special in terms of ambiance... but just a simple space for a quick fix.

Chicken Noodles (Rm 6.50)

Ma La Noodles (Rm 7.90)

Dumpling (Rm 1.80 each)/ Fish Ball (Rm 1 each)/ Ladies Finger (Rm 1.80 each) and Bitter Gourd (Rm 1.80)

Fried Tofu Pok (Rm 1.80), Fried Chili (Rm 1.80) and Eggplant (Rm 1.80)

Hawthorn Drink (Rm 2.20) and Kumquat Drink (Rm 2.20)

Chen Ji's noodles are all home-made and it has 2 different versions- the Chicken version and Ma La. We had both, the former one was pretty simple and straight-forward... with shredded Chicken Meat and served with light Soy sauce while the latter one was dressed in spicy, peppery Ma La sauce. Both were unique and delicious in its own way... particularly the addictive chewy, al-dente texture. Our only complain was the small serving portion. As for the Yong ToFu, we did not find them overly exciting... though none disappoint, we were not wow-ed by any either. But we did agree that they work well with the noodles.
