Taiwanese Palace 第一臺 懷念ㄟ所在 @ Bukit Mertajam, Penang.

Housed in one of the old wooden houses right behind Icon City (via a small alley), Taiwanese Palace is not visible from the main street and it would take some time for new visitors to locate it exactly. The place is especially busy on weekends so due to the strict pandemic dine-in restrictions, the place is less-accommodating for bigger crowd. Menu-wise, it features a wide range of Taiwanese delights, ranging from rice dishes to noodles, sides as well as desserts. Those who are not a fan of Pork may be slightly disappointed with the options as most of the dishes are Pork-based. But if you have a sweet tooth, do remember to check out their desserts as well.

Mix Mee Sua (Rm 10.90/ small)

Smoked Duck Breast Noodles (Rm 18.90/ set)

Spicy Mushroom Minced Meat Noodles (Rm 16.90/ set)

3-Cup Squid (Rm 24.90)

Blanched Okra served with Soy Sauce (Rm 11.90)

Aiyu Jelly Shaved Ice (Rm 12.90)

Signature Mix Shaved Ice (Rm 24.90)

Taiwanese Milk Tea with Pearls (Rm 9.90)

We did not like everything we had, the Mix Mee Sua has bold Pork elements with plenty of innards. While the texture was ok, we thought it was slightly under-seasoned to our liking. For the noodle dishes, the texture of the noodles was good but the health-conscious in us thought that they were too greasy to our liking. The side orders appealed to us more- the 3 Cup Squid was lovely, beautifully cooked with the right texture and reasonable seasoned, would be even better if the Basil aroma is stronger. We enjoyed the desserts more than the mains- the Signature Mix Shaved Ice with various toppings, the shaved ice was fine in texture with milk base; the portion was big enough for the 4 of us to share.
