Kenko @ Jalan Lim Lean Teng, Jelutong, Penang.

Found right in front of Han Chiang Primary School, Kenko has been around for at least a few months. The place is especially popular amongst the Han Chiang students and has been dishing out affordable Sushi and Japanese dishes (expect to find a bowl of plain Udon at Rm 6.90). The menu is not too extensive but more than good enough for a quick Japanese fix. It has many familiar items on offer- from Sushi to Rolls... to Udon/ Ramen and Don-sets. But don't expect the quality to be on par with top-notch Japanese restaurants though... this is more like a place for casual meal in a comfortable, air-conditioned setting without too grueling to the wallet.

Salmon Sushi (Rm 15 for 10 pieces/ promo price)

Teri Chicken Udon (Rm 14.80)

Tempura Ebi Ramen (Rm 15.80)

They were having promo on our visit... during the CMCO period. While the Salmon Sashimi was not top of the cut, they were decent and definitely worth the value. The Sushi rice was nicely done- good texture and the vinegar ratio was expertly done. For mains, we had Teri Chicken Udon and Tempura Ebi Ramen. The former one was basically Udon dressed in Teriyaki and Japanese Shoyu concoction, the Teriyaki Chicken was a little over-seasoned on its own but together with the Udon, the combo was fine. Tempura Ebi Ramen on the other hand, was a disappointment. The broth tasted pretty artificial, almost like instant noodles... which we did not quite enjoy.
