Made Era 媽の時代 is one of the latest spots in Butterworth to get some sweet soup. Found at one corner lot along Lorong Teras Jaya, Made Era is a dessert-focused space with a big dessert menu, offering Chinese-styled desserts mostly... along with a limited choices of some toasts and rice/noodle dishes. The place has a comfortable dining atmosphere- fully air conditioned and well-spaced; the price tags are economical. Quite a nice spot for an after-meal sweet end or an intimate light meal.
Mango Sago with Pomelo 芒果西米露 (Rm 8.80)
Gum Tragacanth with Ginseng Roots 雪燕洋参 (Rm 8)
Taro Glutinous Rice Balls with Ginger Sweet Soup 芋头汤圆 (Rm 4.80)
We were glad that most desserts we had were not overly sweetened. Start with the Mango Sago with Pomelo... the Mango flavor was bold and the Sago was well-cooked. The only problem was the texture... with some cubes of Ice not blended in and affecting the texture. We could still bite the bits of the Ice. Another cold dessert we had was the Gum Tragacanth with Ginseng Roots... which was lightly sweetened with a soft, jelly-like texture. It has a hint of Ginseng Roots but not overwhelming, pretty good for a sultry hot weather. For something warm, we had the homemade Taro Glutinous Rice Balls, served in Ginger Sweet Soup. It was a nice, creative touch... though we would prefer the Taro flavor to be bolder. But the concoction overall, was delectable and not overly sweetened.
