The Lighthouse Cafe @ Penang Road, Georgetown, Penang.

A social enterprise that donates part of its proceeds to charity, the Lighthouse Cafe is one busy eatery at Penang Road. The restaurant is located inside the St. Joseph's Church (next to Cititel Penang) compound and it gets very busy during lunch hours. The place is especially popular amongst the working crowd working nearby. The actual pulling factor is the inexpensive price points and gigantic serving portion as well as a great variety of Chinese stir-fry and Western dishes. The dining space is a little snug but given that the place is air-conditioned, it does offer a comfortable space for a quick fix.

Diners that order any main dish shall entitle to an unlimited helping of Salad and Ice Cream at the counter behind. But we did not find it necessary... as the serving portion was too huge and it did not leave any tummy space after completing the mains. Hailam Char is one popular item at The Lighthouse Cafe. The noodle dish has the quintessential flavor, as well as heaps of ingredients like Shrimps, Vege, Pork and loads of Deep Fried Pork Lard. Together with Sambal, the dish was tummy-filling and satisfying at the same time. Not that it was outstanding but more than decent enough for a usual lunch fix. The Pies are not on the usual menu if you ask the servers, they would be able to recommend and take the orders from you (in which they will source from the Pie shop few doors away... potentially under the same management). We had both Mushroom Chicken Pie and Curry Chicken Pie, the former one did not possess a very bold earthy flavor but on the contrary, the Curry version stood out.
