Kwong Chiu Restaurant 广潮 @ Siam Road, Georgetown, Penang.

Kwong Chiu Restaurant 广潮 is one of the few restaurants that specializes in Cantonese-styled stir fries in Penang, the new addition at Siam Road churns out signature dishes like KL-styled Hokkien Mee, Cantonese-styled Char Hor Fun, Fish Head Vermicelli Noodles etc... along with some Chinese side dishes like Dumplings and braised goodies. The place is suitable for family eat-outs... especially with a menu that suits all age-range; the place is also fully air-conditioned if you must know. Items are reasonably priced and the serving portion is most generous, if you are lucky enough to find a parking lot nearby, do give it a try.

The signature dish of Kwong Chiu is the KL-styled Hokkien Mee... otherwise known as Tai Lok Mee but Kwong Chiu's rendition is a little luxurious- with prawns and scallops added... as well as a handful of fresh greens. The flavor was alright but the Pork Lard aroma was not as overwhelming as compared to those in KL as though something was missing. The accompanying home-made Sambal Belacan on the other hand, was delicious and made a good combo. We also had the Gong Fu Chau Yin Yong, which was served in a huge portion. Unlike the usual Char Hor Fun, Kwong Chiu uses finer ones like Koay Teow and no Vermicelli Noodles are added... but some crispy, deep fried noodles to serve as side to increase the texture. The consistency of the gravy was nicely done but it was a little bland (we had to add some soy sauce in). But for that portion (with prawns and scallops) at that price tag, we could not complain. The Chili Oil Dumplings were nothing out of the ordinary but for 9 pieces at Rm 7, we thought that was a really good deal.
