For an inexpensive, modest but authentic Thai meal, make your way to Somkid Food Corner (facing the Seri Taman Tanjung flat), a quiet and unpretentious place to enjoy home-styled Thai food. Manned by Thai, the place looks exactly like a casual dining place in a neighborhood. It has a small Thai menu offering various of classic Thai dishes from Appetizers to mains as well as quick stir-fry dishes. Though it does not offer the most comfortable dining environment (not air-conditioned), the price points are definitely very budget friendly (with mains starting from Rm 9).

We had 2 different types of Salad- Mango Salad and Chicken Feet Salad; we thought the former choice fared better than the latter option. The Mango Salad had all the boxes ticked- crunchy, sour, sweet, spicy... Somkid did not skimp on the toppings either. There was a chock-full of Anchovies and Cashew Nuts for extra nuttiness as well. Though the Chicken Feet Salad was equally crunchy and addictive, something was missing. We would prefer it to be slightly more acidic and pack a more powerful Chili punch. For main, the Pad Thai was delicious. The noodles were expertly cooked and the serving portion was hearty... we enjoyed the dish to the max with the addition of their home-made Chili sauce... a tangy but tongue-burning concoction, the type of sensation that one would seek and expect in authentic Thai food. The Tom Yum Fried Bee Hoon on the other hand, was disappointingly average though.
